We bought my new to car today, a 2013 Ford Fusion. I named her Luna because she's silver :) my previous car, a 2002 Ford Taurus was named Sandy (gold colored). Dh's truck is named Beau

(Chevy Silverado, grayish color). I have also named all the other previous vehicles dh and I have owned :)

My dh has always named his vehicles. His favorite was Gus, a beautiful old Mercedes he picked up for a really good deal. Gus got totalled on our honeymoon.  :crying: But dh bought him back from the insurance company, and got him fixed up to better condition than what he'd been before the accident.

My first car was named Franklin. I later learned that the name basically means freedom, which seemed appropriate. When he died, his replacement was Frances. And then there are the minivans...Hubert, Suki, and our current car, Liesel (you know, because she's a Volkswagen). I only regularly used the names of the cars and the first minivan, though. I guess once we started naming children, the car names became less important! :)

I have named cars and other things since I was a nanny. It was fun with the kids.

I have a 2000 Camry that is Sally. I bought her new but she is blue like the Cars Sally.

We also have a 2007 Odyssey named Maya. She we also got new and she was suppose to be red but I didn't like red that year so she is brown. Before we got her we would drive by minivans and I would say to DH "mine?" It was a joke but it turned into a thing for us. So DH started calling minivan car lots "minefields". So when we actually got the minivan it was fitting to name her Maya.

DH had a 97 contour that he sold right before we got married (we lived in a major city and only needed one car). I ended up calling it "dodgy mobile". DH doesn't like that name but oh well. 😄

My former employers had a Jeep named "Eep" (the child named that), a Saab wagon that normally drove named Wilber, a BMW that replaced Eep that was Rauel and an Exposition that I am forgetting the name of right now.

I have christened my current van Charlie in honor of The Kingston Trio's song 'Charlie on the MTA'. My van and I are out almost every day (therapy and doctors) and it seems that we will never make it home ( two of the days are 6 - 7 hours long). I find myself singing the chorus to that song on particularly long days or days when I have to go somewhere new.  When it's time for a new license plate I'm getting one that says Charlie :)

My first car was Tanner. It was a tan '87 Honda Civic.

Then, I had a green '96 Pontiac Grand Am. I named it Pickle. It was more of a lemon.

The first brand new car I bought was called Baby because I was ridiculously careful with that thing and I was so proud of it.

My current car, a white Santa Fe, has no name - unless you consider "my car/your car" it's name since that's the only way DH and I refer to it.

My van is officially named Shadowfax because it's white and carries my little hobbits, but in reality, we call it The Beast because it's huge and monstrous and altogether amazing, and I adore it so much that I can't believe I ever even hesitated about getting a twelve passenger van over another minivan.

We just got a new minivan and I gave my kids naming rights. I never named my vehicles, but they decided on Kari. It was named after the babysitter in The Incredibles, who we always loved and laughed at. But it's also kind of a family joke. I always tease them that when they were younger, they were terrible at naming things. If it was a pink stuffed bunny, they'd name it pinky, or fuzzy, or bun bun. Something very obvious and unimaginative. Well, Kari is pronounced like Car-y.

Yes, usually Bessie.  We got a new car back in October for DH and I think it needs naming but Lightning just doesn't fit a grey focus.  We're still working on it.

As a kid every car had a nickname....

The Green Bean(a 1970s Nova), Lame Eagle(GMC Eagle), El Carrucha(El Camino), Chief (red and white f350), Orange Freezie (Orange F250), Patch (excessive use of bondo, who I wrapped around a tree at 17) ..... can you tell kids named them?  We had MANY more cars due to my father's job as a body repair man but those are the ones I remember the best.

No, our mini van is named Vincent as in Vincent Van-Go.  Yuck, yuck, yuck.

:hurray: My sister's van was Yvan the Terrible because the "Che" fell off.

My 6 year old names all our cars. She likes naming things and uses the names so consistently that the rest of us just sort of follow her lead. Our Honda Odyssey is named "Vantley" and our Acura is named "Black Lightning." We used to have a Jeep named "Monster Jeepy."

My first car was named Archibald, but I called him Archie for short. I bought him for $500 and he lasted for 2 years. He was the little car that could...most of the time. He was a 1995 Ford Escort.

My first car was a hand-me-down from my dad. It was a 1984 Chrysler New Yorker...very swanky...very plush.

It had a voicebox: "A door... is ajar." Said in a British male voice.

We called him Winston.

My grandparents had a talking car too. My grandfather, a cantankerous hard scrabble WWII vet, talked back. It's one of my fondest memories of my granddad. A door is ajar. stupid car, a door is a door, not a jar.

Aww, we had a car called The Beast. I truly miss that car.

Our MDX is called "The Big Car" and the Camry is called "The Baby Car."  The GPS in each car has a real name, though.  The GPS in The Big Car is named Trudy for her lovely accent, and the GPS in The Baby Car is named Carmen, as in "Where is Carmen Sandiego?"

Just as a side note the Kindles in our house are named Atticus, Baba Yaga, the unstealthy ninja & Pinkerton.  The ipods are named Sheamus, Clarence and Rufus.  My sourdough starter is named Horace.

nope.  I've known people who do.

there was a van I'd seen around at times with a distinctive vanity plate.  I eventually - and pure coincidence, ended up getting something from them via freecycle.  I asked about the name and how they came up with it.  well, they named all their cars, but couldn't come up with a name for this one.  so, it could not be named, so they named it after he who could not be named.  voldermort.
