Kendall
I purchased the Larson 5th edition Calculus of a Single Variable Early Transcendental Functions. Just to make things confusing there are several other titles of this book with varying edition numbers and identical table of contents (though some have more chapters after the identical ones). I want to teach AP Calculus (though I'm not sure that I will try to get the course approved or not-pros and cons are welcome on that!). But I am not sure I can pull this off without a list of suggested assignments. It doesn't look as simple as assigning all of the odds. That looks like too many problems. I have searched until my hand is sore. So on the off chance that someone else has done this or found this, I am posting here. Thank you. MarkT
Is this your text: <http://www.amazon.com/Calculus-Single-Variable-Transcendental-Functions/dp/B00BQ1U138/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1427038316&sr=1-3&keywords=Calculus+of+a+Single+Variable%3A+Early+Transcendental+Functions%2C+5th+Edition+Ron+Larson%2C+Bruce+H.+Edwards> Personally I wouldn't bother getting the syllabus AP approved. The exam score is proof enough in my book to the future college. The College Board is pretty clear on what needs to be covered for their exams ( I wish my son's charter school was even close). JH CTY publishes a pretty detailed syllabus for AB: <http://cty.jhu.edu/ctyonline/courses/advanced_placement/ap_calculus_ab.html>
Kendall
Yes, that is the text. Though any with the same picture (though different titles) seem to be the same text. Thanks for the thoughts on the approval. That was what my original plan was. And thanks for the link.
ssirisha
I'm thinking of using the same text for my son. As my calculus knowledge is pretty rusted, I would like to have a solutions manual. I'm having hard time finding the (matching) solutions manual for this book. Some of them are real expensive. If you are using one, could you please share the information of ISBN # and also from where you purchased? Thank you.
Kendall
My calculus is rusty also. I found solutions to the odds here. Though I would prefer a book, with odds in the back and this to refer to if we don't understand, I think it will work. From this page you can choose the Larson text http://www.calcchat.com/ This is the direct link to solutions for the book I have http://www.calcchat.com/book/Calculus-ETF-5e/ My plan is to hope that odds are enough and to have another text around (which some have indicated is a good idea anyway) and use the odds from the other text if we need more practice. ssirisha
That is helpful. Thank you Kendall. What is the other text you are thinking of? If we go for second text, I may choose AOPs calculus as we got used to that curriculum. I haven't checked others yet. If you're inclined towards any of the second text choices, please share with me. Thank you.
Kendall
I don't know what other text. I might just grab one at half price books next time I am there. Here is a thread that discusses some other texts. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/539978-which-calculus-books-have-good-explanations/?hl=%2Bkendall+%2Bcalculus&do=findComment&comment=6150825 We haven't used AoPS at all. So I'm scared of using their Calculus book! I have been wanted to order an AoPS book to supplement prealgebra or algebra 1 or maybe number theory, but they are expensive for a supplement. I may do it this year, but can't decided which text.

Caroline
Is this site free as it appears to be? It is. It also has access to articles that Larson refers to in the text. I read an interesting one about intersections of polar curves the other day.
ssirisha
Does any one have a schedule/lesson plan and or assignments for Larson 5th edition Calculus of a Single Variable Early Transcendental Functions? As Kendall mentioned earlier, the odd problems in each section are too many to solve. Thank you.
Kendall
Send me a private message. I've got one I am working through.
aprilleigh
You can always ask here if you want the solution to a problem that isn't in the solutions manual. There are several people here that are quite mathy.
Joan in GE
I purchased the Larson 5th edition Calculus of a Single Variable Early Transcendental Functions. I don't know how much you paid for you book but I found lots of syllabi for Larson's 8th ed Calculus and as you say, it's very important to have some guidance about which problems to do....They do a small percentage of them! If you haven't taught yet, you should know that they'll change the exam in 2016-17 so then you can't use the older syllabi...
Kendall
Yes, I am teaching it this year. It will be a minimum of 4 years before I teach it again so I guess I will be redoing the syllabus then. But really, I copied and pasted from the sample syllabi (I called and they said that plagiarism is not an issue-copy all you want) You can also just submit one of the samples as is, but they recommended doing your own.
