We're still looking at properties to move into a bigger space.   I really liked the one we already looked at but it would need a lot of work - floors, ceiling, paint - and they seem to want to do credit rather than paying for it.  We don't have the money to put out for supplies, etc even if it gets us a few months off rent.   We're still waiting to hear back from the realtor though, so it could still work.

I called about another property yesterday and that realtor is going to get us a report of properties that might work for us.  That should be faster than me searching.

Good Morning!

Happy Sunday!

I told the kids that we had to do online church today because of the snow.  Since we've been doing online church since March because of COVID, they just grinned and were like, OK.

I have discovered that I live in a house full of introverts, myself included.

Good Morning!!!!

COFFEE!!!!~D

Sunday!!!

Church!!️ No snow here, so we’re going. We are all fairly introverted here, too, Junie, except oldest DD, but I like going to church. I just don’t want to have to talk with anyone. 🤣. DH does have to stay home. His work regulations are such that he can’t go.

I’ve been looking for new recipes. When I try to lose weight I end up getting really narrow in my food choices and then I get bored and then I quit. Through calorie counting, portion control and upping my exercise I have slowly managed to take off 10 lbs. which I am happy about, but then o started getting bored and things started to tank. So, this weekend I am looking for ways to change up breakfasts. I found a crock pot oatmeal recipe that I am trying this morning. It looks good and smells good, so here’s hoping...

Use pen and paper, Babe. Can’t ever go wrong with pen and paper. Technology is birds.

Nope.  😂

I do most things on paper, but my weekly grocery shopping needs a properly ordered list of items from which I can pick and choose by checking the item and putting it into a properly ordered list from which to shop.  Then when I uncheck the items, they go neatly back into their proper place, ordered according to the aisles of Aldi, where they wait to be amongst the chosen once again.

Morning. Pulling another night shift. I can hear dogs and cats snoring, which is annoying. I wish I was snoring.

My dog has had trouble all week, but I got the diagnosis on Saturday. She's diabetic. Kind of unusual as she's not really that old (around eight) but it is what it is. Until she's regulated, I guess I'm up nights. Plus she started a higher fiber food, and that's made predicting when she needs to go out a little tricky.

It's not too horrible, but I'll be glad when she's settled out and I can go back to sleeping at night.

Critter, I remember when one of our dogs had an insulinoma.  I was getting up to feed him every three hours around the clock.  I would set an alarm clock during the night.  It was so hard!  Of course this was different than diabetes.  I hope that he can get regulated soon.

Agility report!

Juliet got so excited when I got out my agility vest and started to fill the pockets with training treats.  🙂  She remembered all the commands from before without a hitch.  In fact, she was so confident right from the start that she was actually running through the course with me running behind trying to keep up!  She still has to get a bit more firm on a few obstacles but I felt like we didn't even have a break, she just picked it right up where we left off.  Of the six dogs in the class, four of them were veterans of agility class and two were newbies.  Juliet was happy to see Amelia the basset hound again.  They like each other.

PS - Juliet is such a powerful dog that I can barely control her even with her prong collar.  So my neighbor (dog trainer and dog boarding person) showed me how to loop her leash under her tummy.  Amazingly, this has cured her from pulling and even keeps her from general bad manners.  It's amazing!

An Amazing Booyah!

Good Morning!

Happy Monday!

I didn't sleep extremely well and I feel groggy.

Monthly lab day has been moved to next Monday.  (I actually made this decision before I went to bed last night.  There are a few items that I need to get from grocery pickup to make some of the labs happen.)

Feels like the server is enforcing the "ignore" in Ignore This Thread. 😕 I hope it doesn't have to be archived and restarted or something.

It's very Carolina Winter out today--just above freezing and rainy (Weather Condition 2). Have I told you our weather system? There are five common weather conditions here:

1. 'bout to rain

2. raining some

3. raining a ton

4. STILL raining

5. drought.

Good morning!  It's The Queen's favorite day!

Yay Juliet!  What a smart pup!  That's interesting about the leash thing.

There is a smidge of snow on the ground.  School is not cancelled, lol.

I have attempted to register for the pup training class but it's not open yet.  I have to make a phone call today - trying to get the remaining funds from and close a small college fund account for dd22, but somehow it just is not happening.  I'm getting frustrated calling them every few days to ask how it must be done, then doing what they tell me to do, and then nothing happening.

This evening, various kids have zoom choir, orchestra rehearsal, and scouts.

Coffee!

Did I tell you about the graduation trip we have planned for dd18?  (In lieu of the Oxford creative writing class that isn't happening.)  We're going to fly into Las Vegas, see a bit of the strip, then drive to Lake Powell (taking the scenic route through Zion) and stay at the resort there a couple days, lounge about the pool and beach, and maybe do a bit of kayaking and see Antelope Canyon if the Navajo Nation is open.  Then drive back, toodle along the Las Vegas strip a bit more before our flight home.

I am not super excited about it for her particularly because it doesn't involve anything that she is really interested in - creative writing, drawing/art, music, etc., but I think it will be at least interesting and different from anywhere she's been, and won't involve any serious hiking, and it's affordable, and I feel fairly confident that Things will be open and generally available and we won't have to cancel again.

Yes, Slash gets weirder than usual. Some of it is documented in this very thread.

Well, it's really not close to any of you.  Which is a tragedy.  But if you want, we could meet for coffee in a casino.  😂  Or at the Toadstool Hoodoos.  That could be fun.

Also, if I have any cell service, I can give you boring daily updates of our adventures.  In the mean time, I need to eat properly and exercise so I will fit into my swimsuit and not die of  kayak-induced exhaustion.

I'm confused about the frozen salmon filets I bought at Walmart.  In big letters on the front of the package, it says "Wild Caught".    But in tiny letters on the back, it says "This product comes from a fishery that has been independently certified...blah blah blah".  On the side, it says "Wild caught, processed in China". So was it caught out in the wilds of a fish farm?  That doesn't make me happy.

I finally finished one WWI book. It was very good, but hard to read. I picked up an Anne deCourcy book about the Curzon sisters. They were upper echelon British society in the first half of the 20th century. DeCourcy is a great writer and I love reading about these people. They are insane. Power + money = a train wreck of a personal life.

Yes, daily texts will be required.

In other news, I finished Life Together by Bonhoeffer - I found the first couple chapters a little annoying, but the last chapters were better.  I'm moving on to the reading challenge category of memoir or autobiography: Notes From a Small Island by Bill Bryson.

Ya'll need to stop posting so many books. My list is getting really long! Actually, don't stop posting books.

A fishery doesn't mean a fish farm.  A fishing business is a fishery.  So a fishery can be fishing for wild caught salmon.  Though there is fraud that happens so nothing is guaranteed.  But I would assume that Independent certification would be in its favor.

I think I can start shifting back to sleeping nights now. One of my dogs is a new diabetic, and getting all that worked out for her insulin and control of her bladder hasn't been exactly easy, but she's doing well on the current dose if she's making it that long now. I have to be up days this weekend and tomorrow, so this is a good time to try to make that switch from the night shift to the day shift.

Good morning!

I took the pup on his morning constitutional and he pee'd 3 times but did not poop.  There were cars driving in the vicinity to distract him from his purpose.

Who is supposed to pester Slache about checking in?  She ignores me.

Regular lessons today and zoom orchestra for the two youngest.

Coffee!

30 inches here would shut this place down indefinitely. Like, better luck in March, y'all, because you are parked for February unless it gets really warm.

App endorsement: Magic Home Inventory. I was cleaning out our first aid kit, etc. last weekend and came across a flyer from our insurance company advising that with a home inventory, even something partial/incomplete is very helpful. This app is free and has no ads and lets you be as general or specific as you want, include pictures if you want, etc.--you could upload a photo of a whole cabinet interior instead of listing item by item, for instance. I played with it for like an hour last night, which is an hour more than I've spent inventorying the house in the previous 15 years since we moved in.

How long can "PMS" last if you are in perimenopause?  I've been cranky, edgy, somewhat weepy, craving sugar, salt, junk and just plain blah for weeks now.  I had some spotting a week or so ago (I had an ablation so no real period).  I've been blaming it on winter but it seems more than that.  Or maybe I just forget what winter is like.  I know at least once I seriously thought about getting a therapy light because winter makes me tired and blah, but the munching and weepy are things I don't remember.

I'm worse with down time.  When I'm busy teaching classes, I feel much more energetic.

Yes. Now worth it. Better carpet helped.

Morning.  We wound up with about 30 inches of snow.    Supposedly it was going to continue lightly falling today but nothing is happening right now.   We have no plans to go anywhere but I guess we'll dig the cars out enough so we can get out tomorrow.

I was just coming back to check on your snow situation.  Lordy lordy, Snowpocalypse for sure!

I just realized that tiramisu is coffee-flavored right?  That's why I haven't had it.  I absolutely hate anything with a coffee flavor.  Coffee ice cream, coffee candy . . .   blech!

Dd's tiramisu was chocolate instead of coffee.  Instead of dunking the ladyfingers in coffee, she dunked them in (homemade) chocolate milk.  Very tasty, though the Italian chef at Publix might not have approved. 😁

I've had tiramisu (lots of Italians in NJ, my ex MIL was born in Italy) but I don't like it.  I don't know if I would like the chocolate version better.  I'm not a fan of soggy cookies.

Cannolis on the other hand, YUMMY.  And the italian cookies with the jelly in between the layers or dipped in chocolate with sprinkles on the ends.

Now I want cookies.
