Meeting dd for workout this morning, then working at the science center, then my mom and maybe dd are coming over for a bbq. I got a storage unit yesterday to start moving some stuff out of the science center so I can rearrange to be more socially distanced. I am up early making “my” famous potato salad (actually, it is straight out of the Betty Crocker Cookbook, I am a total recipe follower, but it is the best potato salad ever) because we are going to DH’s sister’s house for the holiday. We will likely be back early evening because we can’t do fireworks at their house, they live in the mountains and risk of forest fire is extremely high. Plus, there is an Indian casino (gambling is illegal in California, but the Indian tribes can do it because they apparently are not citizens, so they have huge lavish casinos everywhere) nearby, and the highway gets very dangerous in the evening. Anyway, in our small town it is legal to do “safe and sane” (read: piddly and expensive) fireworks on our street, provided we have a hose and a bucket of water handy. I have seen a small bit of this in the past couple months from making a campsite reservation at a campground owned by a Cherokee citizen that leases the land from the Cherokee nation. We lit some sparklers and I played ukulele songs on the front porch. I think what helps is cutting up the potatoes when they are hot and putting them in the dressing right away and then chilling for several hours. I like them, but it's nice to have them all done on one day if at all possible. I wrote a lot yesterday as I had off, and that was nice. Now comes the fun slog through the hot part of the summer and I'm sort of dreading that. But we'll make it. Working on schedules for writing, housework, and watering the garden today. I kept texting dh snowflakes in hopes he would text the music director who can control the AC from his phone, but no luck. (Dh is singing this morning, so we weren't sitting together.) It felt so good to get out of there and into the sun! Nothing on the agenda today. I will work more on fall freezer meal planning and maybe go to Gordon's Food Service tomorrow morning and pick up some things so I can get started on soup. There is a group of about 6 people who stand distanced on the platform who will sing a few songs. Also, we have had a string quartet for the past few weeks. The kids used it a lot -- it was set up in the middle of our living room instead of a coffee table. Ten years ago, we moved to this house and didn't have room for it. It sat in ds19's room as a Lego table, but he had outgrown the trains so the trains went in the basement. I realized a few weeks ago that since we only have 4 kids living at home full time, we could re-arrange some things and set the trains back up. The little girls are thrilled. Dd12 was 2 when we moved here, and dd10 hadn't been born yet. So this is all entirely new to them! They have been really good about the shelter-in-place -- they are currently at Day 116 of not leaving the property -- so I'm happy to give them something new to play with. :) *So the story with the train table is that dh and I bought it for our 5th wedding anniversary. It's the "wood" anniversary. 😉 Dh and I saw the table for a great price that we knew we would never see again, and the kids had just had all of their birthdays. We didn't really have room to store something that large until Christmas, but we really wanted the kids to have it. Susan in TN Posted July 6, 2020 Share Posted July 6, 2020 I took a nap! Haven't done that in a while. I ate perhaps the grossest cauliflower pizza ever created for dinner. The crust was like stale soggy cardboard and I would have eaten just the toppings, but the toppings were so salty that you really needed the flavorless crust to balance it out. I am not a picky eater. Realgood Pizza Co. Got it at Publix. I really like the cauliflower pizza that Aldi carries. We were going to go for a walk but it started to rain.
