I added visit every continent and Mary added LOVE and GOD. She likes capital letters.

I think some of those should count as more than one thing. Like each language/skill should get its own entry.

It was, but it's prettier this way. I don't think I'll get to 100 anyway.

Slache, are you reading Wishcraft? I know that one had the 100 things as an assignment. I made a list with 100 things in about 2005 - I'm not sure whether I still have it. I came across it again a couple of years ago I think.

No, 168 Hours. It's about time budgeting. The point is to look at what you want to do, compare it with what you're actually doing and decide how to reallocate your time.

I've stopped at 50. There is no point, in my opinion, in trying to think of things you want. I know what I want and I don't need to over complicate it with a long list.

We have resorted to bribery. Finish one assignment; get one Oreo. Make Momma want to pull her hair out- no cookie for you.

I resorted to driving Gymnast down to the local school with her crying and hyperventilating. We went in, I talked to a friend of mine (she works in that office) about how school wasn't going to kill her, Gymnast used the bathroom, and then we left. She's being really cooperative right now.

What I am actually doing is taking care of small children and big children.

Anything I want to do beyond that is kind of irrelevant at this stage in my life because 7 children + a husband with disabilities = several full time jobs.

Some day when I don't have babies underfoot I'll have a bit more flexibility to actually plan my time usage.

I used to make lists about what I wanted to do with my life when I was in my teens and 20's and 30's and 40's.  Now I don't bother.

I sort of had a bucket list type thing when I was in my 20's. One thing on it, I actually did - walk barefoot on the beach in an evening gown with a handsome man in a tuxedo. Although, not like you would think. I was a bridesmaid in my college roommate's wedding and she got married in San Diego and they took pictures on the beach, so I walked on the beach in my bridesmaid's dress with my escort, who was quite handsome and in a tux, to take pictures. I still counted it, though.

If I were more responsible with my time I could spend more time studying Greek, drawing, and developing my health. That was my conclusion after finishing the list. And I want a papasan chair. And maybe to get my cartilage pierced. And food quality is more important to me than being debt free. I also learned I don't really want that much. That list is pretty, but what I *really* want is not very much. Maybe that was the point of the exercise. I need to finish the chapter.

I don't want to be more responsibible.  I want other people in my life to start being more responsibible.

Remember all of those shootings in my neighborhood I mentioned last fall? We decided to relocate. It's been a crazy move (some of our stuff that we know made it onto the moving truck did not make it here), but we FINALLY have wi-fi again as of late last week. Youngest is back at home full-time (no more preschool), so I have less time to be "here", but I wanted to pop in and say hello! I miss all of you!

So good to hear from you - I’ve been thinking about you the past few days. Sorry about the moving mess. A fafsa on moving!

:iagree: Yes, exactly.  Except I only have six kids and I'm the one with disabilities.

Dream #1 - change the list to 10 things instead of 100.   :D

I have 12.

  1. Learn to draw.

  2. Read for an hour a day.

  3. Learn to read and compose in Koine.

  4. Write bilingual poetry and short stories.

  5. Live a Whole30 lifestyle.

  6. Get in incredible shape.

  7. Go to Disney World.

  8. Develop my patience as a mother.

  9. Screenless family aside from one movie a week.

  10. Read aloud every day.

  11. Buy a papasan chair and roomba.

  12. Never watch television again.

I would like to go back to places I lived as a kid--there are entire countries I haven't set foot in since moving away.

Me too. I'd like to go back to Germany. The base is closed down, and so is the high school, but I hear that guy's gyros stand is still on the street I used to live on.

Happy Monday!

And a Monday it is. After confirming an endocrinologist appointment for ds3 twice in the last week, I promptly forgot all about it this morning. Sheesh. And the next available appointment is in three months. Yee-haw.

I think it's time to rehire AMJ as my Household Manager. And toss a few of the balls I'm currently juggling, too. There is just not enough working memory space in my brain.

Endocrinologist sounds more important than the vision therapy we missed. :grouphug:

Last  year and this I've tried to be more responsive to the opportunities that come my way.  It doesn't mean that I might not try to make some things happen, but so much of my life is stuff that I cannot predict.  And with chronic illness, I can't always make things happen the way I want them to.

But I could never have predicted that at one time I would have been helping to lead Zumba classes.  Or that I would have been doing cardio kickboxing.  Or that I would have taught at a women's retreat last year and actually enjoyed it once I got over my nervousness.  Or that this would be my 7th year (or is it my 8th?) teaching kids at summer Bible camp.  I could go on. . .    I could easily write 100 things that I've already done.

I’m coming, too!

The company dh works for is sending some of its manufacturing to Mexico and some to Germany. I have mentioned more than once that dh needs to insist on visiting the factories and bringing me along as translator. Dd15 would have to come along to Mexico to translate the things that are too complicated for me. Which is anything beyond 1970’s Sesame Street Spanish.

These reality checks do help reset perspective from time to time.

I called the 9th grade school today and got shunted to registration's voicemail.  I left them a message -- this MORNING.  They haven't called me back.  Bet they call when I'm in my appointment tomorrow?

Papasan chairs are very popular with little kids.  They are also helpful when parking babies that can't climb out yet.

I wrote hard today and still have about 500 words to write on a short story. My mind keeps going to a short story I mulled over on Saturday, started writing yesterday and got close to the end of the first scene today. Then I took a few hours and finished reading Rosemarked. I'm not a huge romance fan, and the first person present tense POV kept me from ever really engaging with the characters, but it was well done. Good craft, interesting gray zone between good guys and bad guys, and I really liked the story.

ETA: The first person POV tends to prevent me from sinking into the character. I don't know why. I'm probably the only person in the world that it messes with in that way, but it does.

When FIL was still working he used to go on yearly work trips to Alaska.  I told him he and his group really needed to take me along as their cultural liaison.  They never did, though FIL & MIL did take us on that cruise last year....

I didn’t even know there was such thing as Calc 1, 2, and 3.

My high school had pre-calc, calc AB and calc BC. Basically, if you were at the calc level, you were taking AP, I guess? It seems it was a given as there weren’t other options that I remember. But it was a long time ago.

My AB teacher was good, but very realistic with regard to one’s ability and what to expect from the AP exam. He went around the room and “guessed†what everyone would get on the exam. He thought I’d get a 2. Humph.

So I studied my butt off for the next week and got a 4. I was the only one who really surprised him, he said. Some people are able to study hard and get one level higher than he guessed, but 2 was unusual. He bumped my end of year grade up, iirc. Take that, Mr. White!

Dd was outside earlier with Bailey rabbit.  Bailey didn't want to come back inside.  It was so fun outside and she could eat the carpet!

When dd came in she told me that she thought our neighbor was having a heart attack.  I went out to observe from a distance.  He had very loud vocal tics but he seemed to be fine otherwise and not in distress, so I didn't bother him.
