Tell me about your experience with Duke TIP

Recommended Posts

It looks as though dd9's standardized test scores this year qualify her for Duke TIP. We're trying to decide if it would be worth it to apply.

Does anyone have any experience with TIP as a homeschooler? It looks like many of the courses and camps are quite expensive. Are there other benefits besides these programs?

I actually participated in TIP as a public-schooled kid, but all I remember is getting to take the SAT in 7th grade. That, and the brochures advertising cool camps my family couldn't afford...

Their camps and courses are cheaper than CTY JHU if I didn't remember wrongly.  Their courses do not have a teacher though, you have to grade your child's work.  My 10 year old enjoyed the "Creative Writing: Adventures Through Time" course.

There are boarders kids who took the Duke TIP geometry course which is based on the Jurgensen textbook.

The application fee is a one time fee and my kids enjoy getting the mailers so if your kid like mail then why not.
