Does anyone have something they use and love? Background - we are Christian, Methodist. I can work around some things but that is our general viewpoint. We've always done general character role modeling, etc. but one of my kids wants something specifically involving "We do this because God says so." Older child, special needs, learning to read but can't read independently yet, limited vocabulary. Maybe preschool level material would even be appropriate?

We use Luther's Small Catechism - the first section on the Ten Commandments gives a brief explanation of each commandment that summarizes the teaching of the whole Bible on the Law and includes what we are not to do and what we are to do. You can see the text of the Small Catechism here, and this is the book I use with my kids: http://www.amazon.com/Gods-Ten-Commandments-Follow-Do/dp/0758602278

Adventures in Odyssey (dvds and cds)  My kids LOVE this, even Nate

Veggietales (they have all kinds of books and devotionals)

The Pond (we have the audio cassettes you can have, but I also saw that they have dvds now)

None of this is curriculum, just fun stuff we surround ourselves with.

Doorposts has a lot of great character training products.  Also, a great book for that age is "Character Trails" by Marilyn Boyer.  The Boyers also have lots of great stuff for character training.  I have Simply Charlotte Mason's Laying Down the Rails.  It's good, but there is too much to it.  I like the first ones I mentioned because they're simpler to use and understand. IMO.  ;-)

The Baptist Catechism set to music on CD in a Q&A format:  http://www.graceandtruthbooks.com/product/baptist-catechism-set-to-music

Here's another fun one to supplement with... oh, drat, looks like it's not in print anymore! :(  I'll link it, anyway, the music CD by Judy Rogers, "Teach Me While My Heart is Tender".  The website Christian Liberty Press does have others by her, though, which include some of the songs on this one:  http://www.amazon.com/Teach-Me-While-Heart-Tender/dp/B001U2JVWA/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1425053010&sr=1-1&keywords=teach+me+while+my+heart+is+tender

Training Hearts, Teaching Minds (though this would be more of a parent-led family devotional type of thing):  http://www.christianbook.com/training-hearts-teaching-minds/starr-meade/9780875523927/pd/523927?event=ESRCG

As others mentioned above, you can focus on a study of the 10 Commandments (found in Exodus chapter 20 if you want the full context -- better yet, a whole reading of Exodus!)  And you can always do a study in the book of Proverbs, too.

The best source for "what God says" is always the Bible itself. ;)   2 Tim. 3:16-17 ~ "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."

None of the above sources I've linked should conflict *too much* with Methodist teachings.  Although I think "Methodist teachings" can vary from one church to another, right?  Anyway, I'm sure we agree on most of the basics. :)
