swimmermom3
My dh just called to tell me that one of our youth sailing coaches was found dead yesterday in his home. He was a remarkable young man with a genuine gift for sailing and for coaching sailing. He helped our son get ready for a Junior National sailing championship this summer and my son worked with him over the summer and into the fall coaching Opti sailors. Sailor Dude and all of our club's young sailors will miss him tremendously. Please hold his family and his sailors in your hearts. We can't even begin to wrap our heads around this loss. This is the second time my kids have lost a coach. It takes so long for them to heal. Please be sure to let that special coach in your child's life know how much you value them. Corraleno
:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: Our fencing club recently lost a really talented young man, a national championship fencer as well as a coach for the younger kids, to suicide. It's hard for the kids to comprehend, and so incredibly sad for everyone involved.

creekland
:grouphug: It can take a while to move on from these things. My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved. If it is due to suicide, open talking about it (within your family/friends) can be better for healing than hush hush.

swimmermom3
Thank you all so much for your support. We received word today that he died of a heart attack. Part of me is so relieved that it wasn't suicide and that such an amazing person didn't die in horrible emotional pain, and yet part of me still is furious because he seemed like he was in such a good place in his life and this seems so crappily unfair. I have three kids that have swam, sailed, danced, played basketball, football, and soccer,as well as running track. There are coaches that you wouldn't let near your kids; there are coaches that are okay and get the job done; and there are coaches who not only inspire their athletes with a love of their sport, but inspire them to be better all around people. This young man was in the last category. He could talk a reluctant 6 yo into getting her Opti out on the water or get the most out of a burned-out collegiate sailor. And he was a godsend to mom who was new to sailing and who had dozen of stupid questions. Our youth program manager, in her mid-20's and a good friend of his, found him when she hadn't heard from him in several days. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as well. Kids, parents, and staff alike will really, really miss him. So please, again, if you have a coach, a music teacher or whoever that rocks your kid's world, please let them know while you have the opportunity.
