Snickerdoodle
Please. I have boys. It can't be something like clothes because I lack certain pertinent information. What general things do girls these ages like?
Cammie
Popular things are lipgloss kits, nailpolish kits (sometimes you get nice cheap sets in places like TJ Maxx or stores like that.) Gift certificates for music or book stores or to a place like Claires? Or other accessory stores.

Snickerdoodle
I should have stated that it's out of the country so gift certificates might not work.
ThisIsTheDay
Since you said they are out of the country, I would go with notecards or a cute/pretty journal and pens. It could be a nice pen, a package of colored pens. I'd choose a nice journal, what a 10 or 13 year old would think is fancy, perhaps heavier paper with the rough/torn edge. meena
My daughter (almost 12) is currently having a lot of fun learning to knit with a loom knitter. She got the set of long looms and the book "I Taught Myself to Loom Knit," both from the Boye brand. The book comes with a DVD and the patterns are items that a tween/teen would like. So far she has made a scarf and is getting ready to make a baby blanket for her new cousin. I'll probably end up getting her the round looms as well so she can make the hats and teddy bear from the book.
