LaughingCat
When DD reads out loud to me she has started yawning a lot - does anyone know some kind of connection of yawning to processing?
Heathermomster
I have always associated yawning with stress.
Mandylubug
It is common here. My dyslexic gals are always worn out after a rigorous reading session and actually typically nap afterwards.
kbutton
I yawn a great deal when I read aloud or sing early in the day (or if it's really late). It usually rights itself after a little while, but some Sunday AMs, I spend more time yawning than singing, LOL. Later in the day it's much less likely. texasmama
Reading aloud makes me drowsy, particularly in the afternoon.
PeterPan
Didn't you just say in the other thread you're doing VT? When I read without my reading glasses (which should be bifocals and aren't) that happens to me.
Berta
I have always yawned when I read out loud. I don't know why.
maize
I wonder how many people have been induced to yawn by this thread title? I was!
LaughingCat
Not doing VT since the beginning of the year
Miss Tick
I notice that response with my NT kids. Dd used to yawn during reading, now during math, and ds started yawning during Spanish recently. They are fine in other subjects preceding and just after, so for mine it is some kind of perceived difficulty thing. Even knowing this and having watched the phenomena for a few years now, I struggle not to take it personally.
iammommy
DS, now 15, has done this since he began reading. I thought he was the only one! LOL
Jean in Newcastle
Ds16 does this when reading aloud (not when reading silently). It has always driven me a bit nuts even though I never say anything about it.
Heathermomster
Perhaps the student becomes breathless while reading aloud, and the body compensates by yawning?
