Eagle
I am looking for a children's dictionary for use throughout elementary and beginning of middle school. I really like the looks of the DK Merriam-Webster Children's Dictionary (http://www.amazon.com/Merriam-Webster-Childrens-Dictionary-DK-Publishing/dp/0756637589/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top) except I wished that they made a Canadian version. The closest thing I can find is DK Children's Illustrated Dictionary, Canadian Edition (http://www.amazon.ca/Childrens-Illustrated-Dictionary-Canadian-4e/dp/1553632273/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1401573253&sr=8-1&keywords=Canadian+Children+dictionary). Unfortunately, it didn't even have the first word we tried to look up (archaeology). It is too basic for our needs. (As a comparison, the MW dictionary above is 960 pages and this one is 256). What do other Canadians use for an elementary-level dictionary?
ElizaG
Have you tried searching for a Canadian "school dictionary" or "junior dictionary?" There seem to be some listed under those descriptions.
Eagle
Thank you. Those searches gave me new books, but they also led to me checking out amazon.com.uk. It was much easier to search there for what I wanted. I think we will be going with the Oxford Illustrated Children's Dictionary http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/0199119937/ref=gno_cart_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB And just because I couldn't resist, the matching thesaurus: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/0199119945/ref=gno_cart_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB
