Evergreen State Sue
A friend called me asking for help. His truck driving friend needs to find a low cost apartment. Currently this guy lives in California for $1800 a month. He wants to move to Washington State and live somewhat close to Seattle and close to I-5. How do I go about finding what area he should narrow down his search? He wants a 1 bedroom apartment for somewhere between $700-$900 a month. I haven't lived in an apartment for almost 30 years, and back then a one bedroom was about $250! What would be the easiest way to search for this information? Thank you! Mabeline
Many realtor companies have apartments for rent. We have found it the easiest way to shop for apts.
foxbridgeacademy
Craigslist, all the apartment complexes, duplexes and even SFH will list daily, with pics.

Brilliant
We've used Craigslist to find rentals before. Also MLS sites do list rentals, but those tend to be the higher-cost properties because the owner has to pay a big fee to the listing realtor! lavender's green
I've lived in several apartments in the last several years, including one in Oregon, near the Washington border, and convenient to several highways, which was $700. I found them all with google.
nomfaux
Lifehacker had a post (link) on apartment search tools yesterday. I've been playing around with their top pick, http://www.padmapper.com/, and it seems pretty great so far.

ElizabethB
The Renton area might be a start to check prices, then go further south if need be along the freeway. I would also start with Craigslist.
