saraha
I am making a yellow cake and wanted to know when to cut it into layers. Thanks!
redsquirrel
I vote cool. If you slice it when it is warm you take the chance of it sticking/ripping while you cut it. It will be much firmer if you let it cool completely. If I need to slice a cake I always make it the day before or very early in the morning and slice it at the end of the day. umsami
Cool. There may even be people who slightly freeze it first.
gardenmom5
cool. I use a 12" slicer, but I've read dental floss works well.
smudge
Officially: cool. Unofficially: I can't wait that long......

Chris in VA
Wait--cut it into layers? Don't you have two pans that make the layers for you (i.e. stack the two layers)?
Slartibartfast
Wait--cut it into layers? Don't you have two pans that make the layers for you (i.e. stack the two layers)? You need to cut them for four layers. Four layers = more icing
solascriptura
It is definitely better if the cake is cooled off. in fact, the cut will be even cleaner if you froze it in advance.
