Question about California Private School Affidavit

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I posted  a few weeks back about our potential move to California, and now it looks like it is a sure thing.  I understand one must fill out the Private School Affidavit in October.

My twins will be seniors in high school, and I would like them to take community college classes in the fall.  It looks like you need to show the cc the affidavit to apply/attend.  I won't have one since school would start in August and I wouldn't file until October.

Can I file in June (when we move) even though our "school year" is over?  Then would I file again in October?

I talked with the CC, but the person I spoke to didn't have an answer.  She left a message for someone else to call me back, but I haven't heard anything yet.  Anyone know how I should handle this or where to get more information?

If it matters, we are moving to Northern California around San Ramon.

Thanks,

Grace

I don't think you can file in June. You could have filed after October 15 for the 2013-14 school year, but the school year would be over in June.

I think you'll need to go in person to the c.c. and talk to someone in person, face to face. It isn't common for private schools to have to show their PSAs in order for their students to enroll in c.c., although it is not completely unheard of, but I think you'll need to go talk to someone face to face. It might be worth the challenge; homeschoolers are private schools, and unless campus-based private schools have to show their PSAs in order for their students to enroll, I don't think it would be legal for *you* to have to produce yours, especially since a new private school (that would be you) cannot even file for the first time until October 1.

For myself, since I was always a member of HSLDA, I would have gotten their advice.
