Some more questions for Catholics

We visited 7 churches today here in Guadalajara for Holy Thursday since that's a tradition here.  I've read it's more common in the Philippines and Latin American countries.  Is it done where you are?

Some of the churches had all of the statues in the building covered with purple cloth, some had just a few, some had only the crucifix, and some had nothing covered. One had the entire area behind the main altar covered.  Can you tell me about that?

Thank you. :)

Holy Thursday is the first day of the Triduum.

Here is information about veiling the Crucifix and statues. Our parish does this.
