provenance61
Our co-op is currently looking for classes for next year. I'd like to teach a class for my son's age, he will be in 7th grade in the fall. I like very hands-on, project oriented classes. Any ideas beyond science or CSI? Or is there a science type class that might not require a lot of equipment? Or something in the consumer science area? Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)
school17777
One idea that we have lined up for that age group is a mock trial class. A class that is running right now that seems to be a hit is "Nature of God" - this is a DVD and writing/project (not sure exactly). Logic is another. Alice
Our co-op does a Sherlock class that is very fun. My son is taking it this year. Basically they read a story every other week and discuss it. On the alternating weeks they do some kind of activity that is related to the story. They've done some code making/breaking, they did fabric analysis, fingerprinting, disguises. Someone else offered a game class this year where they did all kinds of logic and puzzle games. I don't have anyone in that one but I think it was things like brainteasers, chess, logic puzzles, etc.
letsplaymath
If you have internet access, you could do a blogging class. Our co-op kids had a lot of fun with that. We've also done recreational mathematics (logic puzzles and games), which was popular and requires very little equipment. Or if the kids enjoy drawing, how about geometric constructions? I've seen a lot of cool Waldorf geometry art.

It sounds like a fun class and we are just starting up a new co-op. Thank you!

The only book they use are the original Sherlock stories.
AmyontheFarm
I've taught a CSI: Arson class last year and a Crime Scene Investigator class this year. The boys loved it! I taught grades 5-6 and 7-8. The author of both books is Karen Schulz they were great for a co-op class. I highly recommend them.
