that could help me find a homeschool group near me. :)

I'm in Decatur and there doesn't seem to be much around that I can find easily. We moved here from Atlanta a few months ago and are having a hard time finding ahomeschool group. We need friends! ;)

TIA!!

I love driving through Decatur. Every time I go by the courthouse, I can hear my grandpa say "Decatur, the county seat of Wise." It makes me smile. I have family in Azle. Sorry, I'm no help at all. I don't live there. You could look into Denton, Gainsville, Azle. I hope you find something to plug into soon.

I found a couple things in Denton. I really don't want to drive 45 minutes!! I have considered checking Ft. Worth. I'm down there at least once a week already.

Decatur is pretty! To bad there isn't more out here! It'd be nice if we had a Target!! lol

Welcome to Texas! I recommend that you join the Horizon's Homeschoolers Yahoo group and ask your question. The ladies in that group will have several recommendations for you. I wish I could give you specific information about the many groups in the Fort Worth area but we aren't part of any of them.

We are in Denton. Welcome to Texas! :) We moved here from PA nearly 2 years ago and we are still getting settled.

We are part of a very small co-op that meets in Flower Mound, but they are not having it next year so we are going

to have to find something new. It's so hard to get plugged in!

We've been here since mid December. We've had a heck of a time meeting people!!! Even meeting people at church. We've been visiting this place for a cpl months and haven't met anyone. It isn't a big church! We went to a park day with a group in Keller last week. They were nice, but not overly welcoming. It was kinda weird to me. Maybe I have a look about me....LOL

There is a big one in Denton (I think it has a waiting list) with a co-op that meets twice a week at one of the churches.  I guess it's not really a co-op, but a drop-off enrichment program.  I'm pretty sure this is it (we were friends with a family who went there):   http://www.firstdenton.org/sonlight/  My friend really liked it.

There's also this:  http://www.dentonclassical.org

When I googled, I also found this one in Decatur, but it also looks more like a two day a week enrichment program:  http://www.homeschool-life.com/tx/joychristianacademy/

There is a Wise County Classical Conversations.  https://www.facebook.com/wisecountycc/timeline  Classical Conversations is huge here.  Most of the families I know homeschool with CC.

I'm seeing a Wise County Christian Homeschool Athletics:  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Wise-County-Christian-HomeSchool-Athletics/301541616759

I'm looking and I don't see anything else.  I thought Parker County had a pretty big homeschool group...

If you're in FW all the time, there are several there, too.  But, all of this stuff is really far away for you!  Also, if you're looking for secular, almost everything here is religious-based.  If I google homeschool group + secular + fort worth...there seem to be a couple, but they are really far from Decatur.

Mama2six - I'm 95% sure I'm thinking of the same group you mentioned.  We belonged to that group several years ago (when we first moved here).   :D   That was our last attempt at joining a homeschool group.  We don't even bother anymore.  We have never had a good experience with the homeschool group thing.  Heck, my kids don't even do enrichment classes anymore.  :(  We were doing lots of those and gave up on that, too.

All of the other families we've met since we moved here and my kids made friends with...we met through sports.  (and I know that sentence was really bad grammatically - LOL)

Thank you for this info! Honestly, at this point I would love to be part of a drop-off educational program, but everything around here is unbelievably expensive!  :glare:

We have been working hard at getting to know people from our church. It helps that my husband is naturally outgoing. I'm an introvert, but I have been trying to set up  play- dates and get together with other moms. It's so hard to make friends!

I heard that there is a CC group starting about 2 miles from me. I just can't afford to do it!

Yeah, stuff like that really adds up financially.  IMO, any co-op, not just CC.  Besides supplies, tuition/fees, curriculum that you need to buy...there's also the cost of gas to drive there and back once or twice a week.

As far as the hs group - yes, they did meet at the library.   :D   It just wasn't for us, either.  When we went (and this was several years ago), it was mostly teenagers.  So, it wasn't a very good fit for us.

If you have the time and resources, you really should look into starting your own group!

I've been looking online for a 'casual' homeschool group in this area since AUGUST! zip, zero, nada! (unless I drive...) There are several co-op things around, but I'm wanting to avoid those. Not what I want/need right now.

I've had so many friends and family tell me I should just start one up. At this point, I'm considering putting an ad in the local paper and going for it. My kids need friends. Heck, *I* need friends! ;) I love my inlaws, but they are the ONLY people I know around here. (they live across the street about 1/2 mile...)

resources, time....how about 'desperation for adult conversation that isn't with my inlaws'?? LOL

Hi everybody!!

I'm new to the area as well. Just moved here from Colorado Springs, CO. I'm in the same boat. There doesn't seem to be a lot of contacts for homeschoolers here. Since we are in similar situations, would you consider meeting up? I only have one boy, who's ten, and in dire need of meeting kids his own age. I need to meet people as well. If you're interested, please contact me. I'd love to meet ya! I know Joshua would too!

My sister lives out in Ponder, but she has to drive to go to anything--stuff in Denton, but her biggest connection is in Justin--a Baptist church has some kind of informal get-together sort of co-op (not classes).  Don't know if that's near you.  I hate that she left Alabama, but there seems to be a great group of homeschoolers out in Texas---
