Just Another Jen
Alcoholics cannot just drink for one night because it's a wedding. And no that's not one of my big city fancy pants notions. I think that said person may have heard that a time or two on one of his passes through rehab. Boundaries. I know and yet I let myself be talked into driving for 6 hours only to find that nothing has changed.

texasmama
(((hugs))) I've had a front row seat in one of these tragedies myself, and it is brutal to watch. Hard on the heart for all involved.

Catwoman
:grouphug: I'm so sorry. :( On the bright side, at least on every other day, you're six hours away from him and you're not stuck dealing with him on a daily basis.
Harriet Vane
I'm so sorry. I have had a front row seat for self-destruction more times than I care to remember. I am thankful that I live in another state now.

Anne in CA
Sadly, I also have witnessed this sort of thing more than I could ever have imagined and I am just soooo sorry. Also, that aside, I am always the one with the fancy-pants big city notions even though city slickers feel I am a country bumpkin, so I never win, lol. The determination some people have to relive history is beyond my capacity for imagination.
gardenmom5
:grouphug: btdt - even though it wasn't booze. sometimes you just have to step back and see if they'll hit bottom and learn.
ThisIsTheDay
:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I'm so sorry. No matter how much you want everything to be okay, it can't be. They are not who they want to be, and they aren't who you want them to be. I know you know this. It's hard enough to watch people wreck their own lives, and it's impossible to understand how they rationalize hurting so many others along the way. G5052
Sorry to hear that. Adults have very hard time changing once they're on a destructive path. A few turn things around, but most don't.
Just Another Jen
Thanks everyone. We avoided everyone this morning and I had several ice cream stops on the road trip home. Thank goodness I'm not on Facebook and won't hear from anyone until they need something. :)
