FaithManor
I do not have great feet to say the least. We'll be walkingmiracle shoe. Iceland gets a fair amount of rain rather regularly in the summer, and we are trying to pack lightly so I'd like to take a shoe that looks good with khakis and a sweater also a cute knit dress and leggings. Add to that the problem of bunions and needing some decent support, I have my doubts that such a shoe exists for females. But I thought I would ask in case the hive knows of such a miracle. Ottakee
I am not sure if they would work but I have special orthodics and had trouble with shoes other than my tennis shoes most of the time but for local stuff I have liked my Clarks. They come in a host of styles, etc. I have some black slip ons that have a bit of something to them but work for jeans to dressier.
Isabella
I'm guessing you mean 'bunions'? I got some Clark Privo shoes that were really comfy, wide and soft, with a strap over the top. Not sure if they are still available. i got them at Zappos about 5 years ago. I used them in Germany where we did a reasonable amount of walking. At present I have some 'Arcopedico' shoes http://www.bstore.com.au/arcopedico-l39-black-23313 I'm not sure if they're available outside of Australia, though. Again they are comfy, soft, reasonable arch support, but they do get stinky after a while. They can be thrown in the washing machine though - I just don't do it often enough. These look quite good, though I've never had Ecco shoes, so not sure how they are.. http://www.zappos.com/ecco-sport-biom-lite-1-2-flat-warm-grey-warm-grey-starbuck-textile?zlfid=191&ref=pd_sims_p_ab_1 These are also some Clarks I got that were nice and comfy... http://www.zappos.com/clarks-haley-toucan-black
AnnaBeth
Love my Merrell Siren Sports. They come in wide and sound like they'd fit what you're looking for. www.zappos.com/womens-sneakers-athletic-shoes~gJ#!/merrell-women-sneakers-athletic-shoes/CK_XARC81wE6ApYPWgK3A3oC2QSCAQOVgAXAAQHiAgYBGAIPCwc.zso?s=goliveRecentSalesStyle/desc/
Amy in TX
I am 49 and have bunions and arthritic knees, and I wore these http://www.merrell.com/US/en-US/Product.mvc.aspx/33589W/82529/Womens/Encore-Breeze-3/Black/J48250?dimensions=0 on a month-long tour of Europe last summer which entailed literally hours of walking on concrete and standing on marble floors every day. I LOVE these shoes! I had very little pain, just mild aching at the end of the (very active) days, and believe me, for me that's a miracle. They were better for my feet than any athletic shoes I had worn on past trips. I wore them with and without socks. They are warm when it's cold and breathable and comfortable when it's hot. Don't know if they're stylish or not, but I don't care--I enjoyed my trip!
wintermom
What are you planning on spending the MOST time doing and what is your priority for "looking good?" Will you be spending a lot of time hiking on trails and walking to the natural sights (water falls, volcanoes), or walking in town? Personally, unless I was in town or on a bus for most of the time, I'd invest in a good pair of walking/hiking shoes and forget about how they'd look in a dress. If you know you'll really want to look good in a dress, pack an extra pair of sandles that don't take up a lot of room in the suitcase. From what I remember about my time spent in Iceland 20 years ago (and it was SO AWESOME), was that anything outside of Reykjavik was pretty rough - gravel roads, gravel paths to historic sites and waterfalls, etc. The weather is cool, so dresses (which I hate wearing anyway) and shorts were limited. Comfortable walking pants was what I wore most. Also, remember to pack a swim suit as there are amazing natural hot springs and hottubs. Have a wonderful time!! LucyStoner
Yeah in Iceland I'd just give up on looks and take a pair of hiking shoes that are waterproof. Wet feet are no fun. These are great: http://m.rei.com/product/824845/keen-targhee-ii-hiking-shoes-womens Take a second pair of shoes for dressier needs. Embrace comfort. Liz CA
Birkenstocks. Most of them come in a choice of width. I find these very comfortable: http://www.shoebuy.com/birkenstock-london-leather/256472 OR http://www.amazon.com/Birkenstock-Womens-London-Slip-On-Leather/dp/B003IT6JBO/ref=sr_1_22?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1392655583&sr=1-22&keywords=birkenstocks You will have to compromise on looks a little. These are water resistant but if you are hiking in the soggy hills, you will need boots.
Entropymama
All I can see is "I'm going to Iceland". YAY!! How exciting!
J-rap
I love my Ecco shoes. I wear them everywhere. I have a black sporty loafer, and also a black nice tennis-shoe style with laces. The loafers are cute enough wear with a skirt. I don't see that exact model right now, but they have several others. They are the most comfortable "nice" walking shoes I've ever owned. Mrs Mungo
I have some shoes similar to this, and they are extremely comfortable, even when standing/walking a lot: http://m.zappos.com/dansko-pro-xp-professional-chestnut-vine-leather I could not wear something like Birkenstocks nowadays, not enough support. If you want a hiking shoe, I like these (I own this hiking shoe, and it has served me well on backpacking trips): http://m.zappos.com/salomon-xa-pro-3d-ultra-2-cs-wp-grey-denim I like sandals from Clark's. They are about the only sandal I can wear on an outing without my feet hurting. They have quote a few that are versatile enough to wear with pants, shorts or a skirt: http://m.zappos.com/women-clarks-sandal
Cafdog
I just bought these shoes for walking around Disneyland. http://www.zappos.com/naot-footwear-kirei-black-madras-leather-shiny-black-leather-black-patent Spendy, but soooo comfy! I have terrible feet - wide toe box, narrow heels, hammertoes, and prone to blisters. I wish there was such a thing as feet transplants. I've reached the point in my life where I am willing to pay more for shoes that don't hurt.
