mom4sons
My son will be taking the ACT on February 8th. He has tried a practice test and he is not happy with his scores. He is working on taking the test more quickly. Do any of you recommend a specific course? I am willing to purchase an online class. I have been encouraged to be careful as many test prep programs are not helpful. My son has the 2013 edition of Cracking the ACT. Additionally, he has the ACT prep online practice. We purchased this when we signed him up. thanks
regentrude
We used the Reld ACT prep guide: http://www.amazon.com/Real-ACT-Prep-Guide-Include/dp/0768926750/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1389361581&sr=1-2&keywords=real+act Those videos for the science section have been recommended here by several people:
Musicmom
We used the videos recommended above and found them very helpful. I would also recommend The Real ACT Prep Guide--it's a large red book like the one in the link above, except the newest edition contains 5 (rather than 3) previously released ACT tests. We've found it's best to use the tips from books like Cracking the ACT, but to then practice only on real ACT tests. Another good resource I would recommend is the book, Dissecting the ACT 2.0, by Rajiv and Silpa Raju. It's a small book, relatively quick to go through and gives very good advice--the authors are young adults who both aced the ACT in high school. It will take you through the 2009-2010 released ACT test (available online) and show you how to deal with the various types of questions. Hope this helps!
