itsmylife
I am seriously contemplating signing up for iXL starting January - we will use this primarily for afterschooling (DD is 7, 2nd grade). I just saw that they have added a Language Arts section as well. Is it worth the time spent on it or is there something better. I want something online so that DD gets into the habit of taking online tests - she has abosolutely no exposure online test taking. TIA! the4Rs
I use it in my first grade classroom some, though not as much as I'd like. The few lessons we've done in math have been a big hit. Wish I could be more helpful.
MyHandsAreFull
I have tried two separate IXL subscriptions with my kids (hope springs eternal). We just couldn't make it work. The biggest gripe was that if you miss a problem it adds like five more problems of that type. Which means task completion is a moving target. The second biggest complaint the kids had was it was too much like a worksheet--all drill and no fun. OTOH, there are folks who swear by it. Just didn't really work for us. reign
Dream box learning is an excellent online math program. It is independent but I don't think it will give them "test taking" practice. I mean it's not set up as bubble filling. Xtra math is good for fact memorization.
ThatHomeschoolDad
We swear by IXL, but this is (I think) our 3rd or 4th year with it, and DD did have to sort of get into a groove. She does it each Friday after 4 days of Saxon. I like that it's state-alligned, just so we can confirm where we are.
dancingmama
We do ixl. Check with your school. My son uses his school account for free at home for extra practice. Perhaps your school also has a similar setup. He doesn't love it but he'll do it for about half hour.
