Some of them are pretty good as practice books.

Also I've downloaded some that are teacher's materials, e.g. Angelilo's books on teaching English (which are now back up after disappearing for a whilel), or the Mind Up curriculum (which does contain worksheets for student use, but isn't a student workbook). Be very hesitant before buying anything from Scholastic at full price; they put things on sale constantly. I've gotten almost everything from them for $1, including books that sell for >$10.

We just got a kindle fire for Christmas. I haven't had time yet to explore its full capabilities yet. I'm hoping to put harmony fine arts on it. And a bit of CKLA. I wanted to explore using ambleside and maybe MEP. All of my bravewriter is printed and in binders. I think there are some apps I wanted to explore...dissect a frog, worldly wise, Rosetta stone. My oldest has been playing on duolingo. I wanted to try to use mcguffy readers on it.

As an additional use for Kindle, I downloaded it to my PC. I downloaded Treasure Island (free) for my 10-year-old. What happened next was really fun: he opened the highlighter and began highlighting some content; then he opened the notes and began writing a side story for each chapter. I helped with some vocab words like "vivid" from the first couple of chapters (the only ones he has read so far). This seems like not only a wonderful free resource, but some great integrated learning as well. The feminist in me rebelled at the idea of mentioning that there are no females in this story (only a brief mention of a mother cooking), but that made it all the more appealing a read for him :).

We bought "A Child's History of the World" for $5.99 for the Nook.  We also bought the hardback book, but DH likes reading the ebook on the iPad.

It's a really wonderful introduction to world history for 3-5th grade.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I did not know about this book being in eBook format. I forget to check iBook and Nook for every title that Amazon doesn't have.

I know this thread is quite old, I hope no one minds my bumping it.

As I'm skimming through these great lists of resources I wanted to share one of my own favorites for music history.

Classical Composers, a Home in your Head for the Musical Masters - for teaching composers, eras, famous pieces, and how to build memory palaces.  My 2nd and 4th graders absolutely loved it and retained the information.

Layers of Learning is BEAUTIFUL on my iPad mini and is a really important new option for tablet users. I almost ordered year 2 during the August sale, but I am so thankful I didn't, because just today BSGFAA became available as a pdf. WooHoo!

I'm really torn as to whether I just want to lug around my old hardcopy NtK books or invest in Layers of Learning.

Many things purchased at Currclick {or most really} are available in some form of Ebook format. Write Through ... History comes to mind as well as various science studies {Shining Dawn Books for instance}, & all sorts of other goodies. I often look there first to see if things are available.

Peace Hill Press has items in ebook format too.. It's how we have WWE, but we have a hard copy of WWS. I think the TM for WWS would have been fine as an Ebook.

WP now sells their IG's & Workbooks digitally which we like.

TOG is digital too now isn't it..

I had a hard time finding the Prairie Primer in ebook. You have to change the option in the editions scroll bar. The pdf version is $35.00.

http://cadroncreek.com/shop/prairie-primer/

TOG can only be viewed in a locked application, that is not available for all devices and you have to request permission and pay an additional fee for each device. I have the TOG writing curriculum and really don't like the whole set up.

What a difference a year makes in my favorite eBooks! I find it interesting to read old posts. Sometimes they get me back on track. Other times I read them and think :confused1: Sometimes I'm at the exact same place. I'm going to think about what are my current favorite eBooks. Favorites, for me, are often eBooks that can be used on the tablet, rather than printed out. EBooks that stand alone, and that especially do not use non ebook supplements. EBooks that don't lag when scrolling through them. EBooks with illustrations.

When using an all eBook/tablet curriculum in less than ideal circumstances, I have started a term that I call visual impoverishment. A tablet full of lots of unillustrated read alouds that refer to things that the students has never seen can be a bit tricky to deal with if there is no internet hook up. One of the reasons I like Layers of Learning and BSGFAA is the illustrations.
