Meadowlark
My 5 year old hunting enthusiast is begging for a bow and arrow that is NOT for a "baby". I am clueless of brands, quality. He won't be doing any real hunting, but I imagine we'll put up a target and allow him to practice shooting. Nothing sharp or dangerous honestly, just has to look real to him. Can anyone suggest such a thing? I looked on amazon and there are so many to choose from. Thanks!
jentancalann
Recurve or crossbow? I'll reply with some specifics when dh gets home. :-)
Stuart
This was on my sons list so I've been researching. He's ten so I went with a step up from this but this looked good for little ones. Dicks sporting goods had them so I got to check them out IRL. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001RMWRHE/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1386375068&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70 This this the one we got. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001RMWRHE/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1386375068&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70
Haiku
My kids have the Lil' Banshee compound bows. Dumb name, but the kids really like them. My sister got them from Amazon. You can also get them at Dick's. They also have a regular Banshee with a heavier draw weight.

Are you happy with it?
LifeLovePassion
We have the compound bow version of the bear, but it is not a toy...The arrows could do serious damage.
jentancalann
I meant recurve or compound- sorry! He says he needs to start with a fiberglass recurve since the wheels on compounds have set lengths and he's still growing. He's trying to find a specific site to send you to. Back in a moment... :-) Kidbow.com He says it should be fiberglass, recurve, and ambidexterous. Eye dominance matters and more than likely you don't know if he's right eye or left eye dominant yet. Hope this helps!
LifeLovePassion
Next steps would be a Genesis mini then a Genesis. But they are also real/would need supervision to use. Also check to see your cities rules regarding bows as it can be considered discharging a firearm. For true play bows...The z curve bows look fun
LifeLovePassion
Bear and Genesis compound are infinitely adjustable
PinkyandtheBrains.
Genesis Mini if it's in your budget, otherwise the bear ones are great starter bows.
Stuart
Funny, this is the one I thought looked the best...did you get it yet? Are you happy with it? It seems well made. it's a Christmas present so we haven't used it yet. It does have metal tipped arrows and will require supervision.
