LillianinAL
I am looking at these programs to teach my 5 and 6 year old boys to read. They were adopted from Ukraine at age 2 and 3. I think they need something more explicit with more review than a one book phonics program. I have used OPGTR with some of my other children, but we need something else for these two. Any comments or other ideas would be great. Thanks!
CrunchyGirl
My sister really likes Abeka's phonics program. I have no idea how many books it is though.
SFM
I looked at OPGTR and it not for us, we tried Phonics Pathways which I thought wouldn't be a good fit but it is perfect. We combine that with Explode The Code books and are set for Phonics. I also will transition into using The Writing Road to Reading in 1st. HTH, I have never had experience with the other ones that you mention in your title. Sorry.
QuirkyKapers
My children liked the American Language series. We tried the Christ Centered phonics and they didn't like them. I liked how the American Language series starts with small, real stories to read and gradually increased the reading level.
LillianinAL
Thank you! These replies are very helpful. Anyone else?
LillianinAL
Quirky Kapers, did you use the Teacher manual on the CD or print it out? I really like the looks of this program, but I'm not sure about the cd. Also, how long did the lessons take each day? Thanks! QuirkyKapers
Actually, I didn't get the CD or the teacher manuel. I did Hooked on Phonics, Explode the Code, Memoria Press' Classical phonics and just used the American Language for reading aloud to me. I was actually surprised that she like their books. She had liked nothing else I had tried.
