Caitilin
I had an interesting conversation with someone at church, and it turns out he and I had very different definitions of this word. What's yours?
StaceyinLA
Well I would consider it a type of curtain, but I know if one of my "hip" kiddos said it, they'd probably mean someone was cool.
Dandelion
My first thought was "swag bag" (bag of goodies you get at a conference, event, etc.).
JessReplanted
My initial thought is "Rent-a-Swag" from Parks & Recreation. So, I think of 'swag' as 'fancy, trendy, or cool.'
momma2three
I think the modern meaning it comes from the goodie bags at the Oscars being called "swag bags." So it usually means awesome goodie bag type stuff, but has sort of expanded its meaning to mean fancy and cool stuff.
UmmiSays
It's having a confident attitude. You can see it in the way someone walks and talks and moves....

celticmom
I am familiar with the first two definitions. I think that there are multiple meanings for the word. We need a multi choice poll.
Miss Marple
A couple of years ago I would have answered "curtain". After living in a household of teen boys and watching Parks & Recreation, I have a whole new concept of "swag".
Melinda in VT
Stuff you get for free at an event. How cool it is depends on the event. The blinking red plastic glasses I brought home for my kids from a software conference don't have much in common with anything in an Oscar swag bag. Rosie_0801
Other: Bedding rolled up in canvas or a tarp
Plink
Swag is kinda' like the word bear, many meanings depending on the context. I didn't vote because it only gave the option to choose one definition.
Spy Car
I think the modern meaning it comes from the goodie bags at the Oscars being called "swag bags." So it usually means awesome goodie bag type stuff, but has sort of expanded its meaning to mean fancy and cool stuff. That's it. It is the bag of cool stuff one gets as a "freebie" when one attends the Academy Awards, and (more accurately) attends the on-site Governor's Ball immediately afterward (because that is where they are passed out, not at the show). I've been twice. The word has percolated to include gift bags from other venues. Bill
bolt.
A goodie bag, largely branded advertising items.
Isabella
As Rosie said, a light mattress covered with a canvas zip-up top (like a little tent/bed all in one) that young people especially use for camping out.
Melissa in Australia
Other: Bedding rolled up in canvas or a tarp :iagree: used in a sentence like grab your swag and lets go camping also used in the song Waltzing Matilda
Word Nerd
Stuff We All Get—like all the pens, bags, and other freebies you get if you visit vendor halls at trade shows or the state fair. The word has other uses, but that's the one that first comes to my mind.

shukriyya
Ornamental greenery/flowers. Or lots of fabric arranged in a particular decorative way. I've never heard of some of the other definitions mentioned.
Melinda in VT
I almost forgot the acronym. SWAG=Silly Wild-Assed Guess.
MamaBearTeacher
Someone who knows how to walk and move their body with finesse or interact well with people has swag. It could also be a type of curtain.

wintermom
I know that there are other meanings, but since I'm a runner and they hand out what are now called "swag" or goodie bags at races that would be the first thing that popped into my head now (Stuff We All Get). 20 years ago I would probably have said the curtain thingies. Jackie
My first thought was "swag bag" (bag of goodies you get at a conference, event, etc.). This. When DH was in sales, he would have stuff with his company's logo to give out to customers and potential customers. That stuff was commonly referred to as swag. OrganicAnn
My first thought is that stuff they give to celebrities at those big awards shows. Second thought Pirates booty. Three thought is cool awesome stuff ie like from Parks and Rec.
nd293
In Australia it is a one person tent-sleeping bag combo thing. https://www.google.com.au/search?q=swag+australian&client=safari&hl=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=H1WVUrvGMcXCkgWW_oGYDQ&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAA&biw=1024&bih=
Heather in Neverland
Among the teenagers at my school, it's the "cool" stuff you own... expensive digital items, expensive shoes or clothes, etc. Anything that shows off how much money you have. Walking or carrying yourself with confidence is called "swagger."
PeacefulChaos
Well, I wouldn't necessarily say any of those hits it right on the money for me… Like, one of my favorite songs says head, shoulders, knees, toes, swag. When I posted a picture on instagram of me after Pink accessorized me, I hashtagged it momswag. I can't really describe it.
Halftime Hope
I'm with those who said it's your confidence, and the style/panache with which you dress and carry yourself. But then, I'm the mama of two in the late teens and early twenties. The eldest has zero swag, preferring to live either in his jeans and work polo, or his jammies. LOL I checked other. In my world as a seamstress, a swag would have been a curtain or a seasonal decoration that hangs in an inverted arc.
happi duck
I most often hear it used in terms of give away items or short for swagger.
Guest
"Swag" means a curtain to me and "schwag" means branded merchandise or status symbols that nobody really needs. I'm in a rural town in Northern CA and my all teens morphed into twentysomethings too long ago for me to be cool any more.

SKL
Well, I thought it had something to do with homosexuals or transvestites, but I wasn't sure. So I googled it, and the Urban Dictionary sort of agrees with me....

So I googled it, and the Urban Dictionary sort of agrees with me.... From the context, that entry is using "gay" as an insult, the way that middle schoolers in Boston do, and not to mean people who are actually gay. So I googled it, and the Urban Dictionary sort of agrees with me....Ah. I see you picked definition #1, there. Funny thing, really. Webster's says this: Main Entry: 2 swag Function: noun Date: 1660 1 : SWAY 1 2 a : something (as a decoration) hanging in a curve between two points : FESTOON b : a suspended cluster (as of evergreen branches) 3 a : goods acquired by unlawful means : LOOT b : SPOILS, PROFITS 4 : a depression in the earth 5 chiefly Australian : a pack of personal belongings. I can totally see the mixup, especially with acronyms, and all. It's like Peoples United Hands Let Every Assembly Spokesperson Express! They always had a hard time at the rallies. Hannah
Here, "he has swag" means he dresses well, has style, carries himself well.
