Mrs. Lilac
Ladies, we have just begun full-on pursuing a move to Grand Rapids, MI. I would LOVE any leads you can pass on to me about good neighborhoods (in the city), homeschool groups/stores/co-ops, or companies that do engineering/computers (for a job for DH.) Plus any other area tips you have for me! Thank you in advance for any help you can offer! This board is such a blessing! :)
Meriwether
I can't answer your questions, but I love that area. We lived about 1/2 hour from Grand Rapids when I was a kid.
kateingr
Welcome in advance! Grand Rapids is a great city to homeschool in, with tons of resources and activity options. You might start by googling the homeschool building and taking a look at their lists of resources. They are probably the most centralized source. I'm on the southeast side of the city, and love it. It has a lot of nice neighborhoods and quite a few homeschoolers sprinkled around. If you're looking for something specific--either neighborhood-wise or homeschool-wise--feel free to PM me. :)
T'smom
I'm about 45 minutes away from Grand Rapids, so I don't know anything about neighborhoods or such. But, welcome to West Michigan!
djunec
We are in Grand Rapids, There is a great homeschooling community here. We just started HS after a few years in private school and I was very surprised how many opportunities I have found for my kids (tomorrow we are going to the Blandford Nature Center to dissect owl pellets, they also have homeschool classes). The "homeschool building" in Wyoming, just outside of GR is a great place to get lots of info. As far as neighborhoods are you looking in the city or in the surrounding area. Really there are very few places in GR that I would not recommend.
Tracy
I grew up in the western suburbs, and I still have family there. Can't give much in the way of advice, but it is a lovely area to raise a family in.
Mrs. Lilac
Thanks for all the great info so far ladies! For those who asked, we are looking to live IN the city- we like to do urban outreach work. I'm encouraged to hear all the people saying it's a great area!
