Any coming-of-age in the civil rights era book suggestions?

Coming of Age in Mississippi by Anne Moody - read this for a college class, but I don't think there's anything inappropriate in it (at least not moreso than The Help). Biographical, not fiction. Despite the rather uninspiring title, it's really enjoyable.

Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor (and sequels)

In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson

The Lions of Little Rock – Kristin Levine

The Autobiography of Malcolm X - Alex Haley

The Lions of Little Rock

I checked this out to read recently from our library and it was a great book! I immediately added it to a list of future school books to have my dd read when we cover that time period.

I got to pre-read that when she was working on it! She's a great writer.

The only one I didn't see that I would add is Countdown by Deborah Wiles - more of a 60's in general book, but very good.
