crazyforlatin
I'm hosting a family with a 5-year old and I would like to give her a few gifts that might be expensive to buy (but cheaper here) or hard to find in Europe. When Dd was 5 years old, she liked Haba and other building toys (and the foam bow and arrow that she got for Christmas) but NEVER dolls. So I'm trying to think of toys that a European girl would love, though I might get a building block set of some sort to add to the mix, just in case. I've only come up with one idea - Melissa and Doug Tea Set, http://www.rainbowresource.com/product/Science+in+the+Beginning+Set/011787/1e917a740aa15548af554a9d?subject=11&category=6519
Tap
Maybe ask the mom if she likes dolls. I have one that does and one that doesn't. The Itty Bitty baby from American GIrl is a great doll for that age group.
crazyforlatin
Oh I just looked at AG - wow - dolls are expensive now. Can I just say that I'm glad DD is more into Legos? I should add that I don't know this family but volunteered to host.
LibraryLover
Book/Books? Goodnight Gorilla? Are Beanie Babies still popular?
Mnemosyne
I have a cousin that age... she always likes the Dora the Explorer stuff, but that may just be because there is more selection here? Various board games are available here but not there (don't pick one that requires good knowledge of English), the girl may not like this quite as much but clothes - whenever my family comes over they spend hundreds of dollars on clothes because they are much cheaper. I'd avoid DVDs and media, because a lot of them have region restrictions and would be harder to play in Europe. Electronics would need a plug adapter as well. I'll ask my aunt for more specific things that they like getting here, it's been so long since I was that age living in the NL. ;) Edit: She says Little PetShop and Lalaloopsy are usually seen as a lot of fun. Is she a real girly girl or no?
crazyforlatin
Fiona, not sure whether she is a girly girl, but I would tend to lean towards that. They are actually from Belgium but close enough to NL (edited my question). Good advice about electronics, although I should have immediately thought of this as we have family members there who had to buy adapters. I'll look into your aunt's recommendations, thanks!
