Twinmom
OK, my plan for this year was to combine the Ancients studies in SOTW and MOH for my four kiddos. I love SOTW but want more biblical history, so I thought I would use MOH as a supplement. I got Paula's archives on the subject, which combines all of the lessons in chronological order. Originally, I thought this would work for me, but truly it has just blown my mind! Seriously, how could I possibly get all that done in one school year? I'm feeling overwhelmed. Just thinking about all the hours it would take me to figure out which book to use and when is just too much. I've also got all the supplemental books on the shelf (Kingfisher, Usbourne, Child's History of the World), so I'm really getting in over my head. I suspect I'm doing it to myself, thus my inquiries with the Hive! There's got to be a better way than what I'm currently trying to do... Can anyone offer suggestions on how they've done it? I know many folks do combine the two, so I'd love any tips. I'm trying to prepare for school while suffering from the flu, so go easy on me! No big words, please! ;) Thanks,

HollyDay
Deep breath!!! Yes, you can successfully combine the 2. I did it for vol 2 not vol 1 however. There was a thread recently on this subject, you might try a search to see what turns up. My next thought would be to purposely make it a 2 year study. Why rush?? I didnt catch the age of you dc (sorry, I hit the reply button too fast). But, if they are younger, you can certainly slow it down. I supplemented with more books recommended by MOH rather than SOTW. Honestly, I think it was because it is better laid out on the MOH online resource page and thus easier to pick and chose. Now, having said how "smooth and successfully" it can be done, I can tell you I am NOT going to do it again this year. It did get too much for me to constantly be flipping between the 2 spines, looking a unit or 3 ahead to get supplemental readers, and basically pulling it together. Overwhelming??? No, not at all. A pain and a frustration for me?? Yes. I would also suggest adding Trail Guides to Biblical History to either spine. You will have to take it a bit slower since you wont hit Paul's travels until MOH vol 2.
Twinmom
Thanks, Holly. That's good advice. I'm going to try to :chillpill: and I'm definitely going to look into that MOH online resource page. I'll also search for the other thread. It's important to me to finish the Ancients this year if possible, as I'm working across 3 grade levels and needing to get the oldest moving on next year. I've backed her up and am repeating things she did in K and 1st in a classical private school so as to be able to teach all four kids together. So, I need to be able to move her ahead into something she's not covered in the next year or two. If I finish Ancients this year and Middle Ages next year, she'll be able to move into something new by 5th. Maybe I just need to not go into too much depth this year and stick to one thing... Twinmom
I saw on the other thread that someone used the Biblioplan list to combine them both. Anyone who has done that care to comment?
