Well it is that time of year for me again, time to place international curriculum orders ready for Christmas and our new school year in January.

I am after suggestions for quality read alouds for my girls, I asked this question last year and recieved the best suggestions with the books I ended up purchasing being our favorites for the year :001_smile: so here I am hoping for a repeat.

My girls will be nearly 7 and just turned 5 at Christmas (2nd grade and K next year). What read aloud books were favorites in your house at these ages? Any books we cannot miss?

Thanks!

I went through the Read Aloud Handbook and organized his suggestions into grade levels.

Here are my Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade lists.

Do you have lists for higher grades too? Say 3rd-6th grade? I love this idea!

ETA: Whoops, should have read your siggie. Do you plan to do 5th-6th grade too?

I usually post them when my dd is starting that grade since she's only going into fourth that's as far as I've posted on the blog. I do have 5th, 6th, and 7th in a rough draft type of form. If you would like those as they are just send me your email and I'll send them to you.

It was a LOT of work to do these. It took me an entire summer a few years ago.

In roughly the order we read them, from 5 to 7:

The Milly-Molly-Mandy Storybook

Winnie-the-Pooh

Nurse Matilda

Oxford Treasury of Fairy Tales

Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle

A Bear Called Paddington

Tumtum and Nutmeg

Gooney Bird Greene

The Night Fairy

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

The Witches (Dahl)

Because of Winn-Dixie

A Little Princess

On the Banks of Plum Creek

We read a lot more, but these are the ones I remember being particularly well-loved.
