Staceyshoe
My 8 y.o. boy really wants to learn how to sew. I'd like to find him a basic kit with a few simple projects, larger than typical needle, etc. Obviously, we are looking for something that isn't too flowery. Any ideas? silver
It's not a kit, and I'm not sure how into it he would be at 8-years-old, but he could make felt food. A tapestry needle (thick and blunt), sheets of craft felt, and embroidery floss would be all you'd need for simple projects. My son had made slices of felt pizza for his first sewing project. If your son doesn't want to have to make his own patterns or ideas, there are plenty of tutorials and patterns out there (look on etsy for paid ones and just do a google search for free ones). The paid ones will usually be more detailed--materials list, step by step photo instructions, etc. And maybe if he wouldn't be interested in felt food for himself, he could make some for his younger brother? mom2bee
You can make a whole ton of felt-stuff that isn't food. You can do farms, construction sites, buildings, roads, country scenes, city seens, beach playsets... Also, what about making a shirt for a stuffed animal? A Quilt square or two for a special family friend that likes to quilt?
Mommy22alyns
I agree, make your own kit! I did that for Rebecca anyway and it was a lot better than a premade one.
