amyk
I would love to hear your very favorite art programs, books, DVD series, etc. I am making decisions about art curricula and am looking for something fantastic! I have two older art students (6-8 grade) and two younger (K-3). Something that can be adapted to both would be awesome, but maybe I should have a different program for the two levels. Thanks for your help!
BatmansWife
For the younger kids...Home Art Studio. It's K - 5 (she may be making more).
amyk
I just saw this searching another thread. I considered using the 5th grade level for the olders. It looks fantastic!
Suzanne115
We use and really enjoy Atelier. Suzanne
Jennay
I have never been able to follow an art program consistently until Atelier.
Jess4879
We love HAS for the younger grades. The kids really enjoy it. We also use Come Look With Me books for art study.
PaulainTx
Another vote for Atelier. My girls love it.
Walking-Iris
Harmony Fine Arts for appreciation and Drawing With Children for drawing. I tried Artistic Pursuits but just did not really like it. Going it alone this year and my oldest has a painting mentor. I'll need to watch this thread.
buram
We just started Home Art Studio this week with my K and 2nd grader. We are going to do the K program one week and 2nd grade the next. They both loved the first lesson on the K DVD and really like the teacher.
amyk
Thanks for all the responses. How long does HAS take? I am planning on once a week or even every other week It looks like it is set up by project--how much time do they take? Are there additional things to do? How have you scheduled it? I'll have to look into Atelier.
amyk
Same question for Atelier--how long do you need for a "session"?
Researcher
Atelier. The program is easy to use and my kids really enjoy it.
Researcher
The lessons don't take long. I would say the average is 20-30 minutes.
amyk
Also, those of you who are recommending Atelier, what ages are the students with whom you have used it?
amyk
Researcher, how often do you do art?
Researcher
Atelier has several different levels to accommodate every grade from K to middle school. We do art once a week and find it enough for the hands on portion. We also study art as part of history.
aminuteorless
Is the Home Art Studio webpage down or is it just me?
buram
It takes my oldest longer than my younger. I'm guessing 30 minutes for one and 45 for the oldest. I scheduled it on Friday afternoon when all school work for the week is done so there is no rush.
HSinNH
We really like Meet the Masters.

I'll have to look into Atelier. Every other week would be perfect. There isn't enough lessons in just 1 dvd to cover an entire school year doing it weekly. They are on sale at HSBC right now. The dvd's average 18 lessons each (seems like a few were less or more...can't quite remember now)...and Atelier has 3 modules per level with 18 lessons (6 per module). Another think I like about HAS is that you can upload pictures of the kids art projects and Ms. Volin will put them on her website and make a nice comment. Is the Home Art Studio webpage down or is it just me? Seems to be working for me. http://www.officialhomeartstudio.com/
SevenDaisies
We love Atelier. I wanted to keep everyone together so we started with level 1. It wasn't too challenging for my 3rd grader, but it wasn't too easy either. Last year we had 3rd/K/PK in Level 1 and this year we have 4th/1st/K in Level 2. By next year, they will all fall into the age range for level 3. Your spread may be too big to combine, but I don't think two levels would be bad. It's very easy to use. We tried Artistic Pursuits, and while I really wanted to like it, it just didn't get done. The projects don't have enough guidance and they all started to seem the same. Artistic Pursuits could work with your older kids. It is meant to be done independently. We just needed a little more hand-holding and we got that from Atelier. amyk
This is so helpful! I'm thinking two levels of Atelier, although Home Art Studio looks great, too.
SevenDaisies
It's on HSBC this month if you can wait to start until next month. It's currently 15% off, but I think you would have to pay shipping for each level. If it goes down a bit more, it will be worth it for you. It usually makes it to 40% off, but not until just before the deadline.
