EmilyGF
...what should we use instead? We love WWE, but haven't clicked with FLL. We decided to hold off one year on MCT so that our kids are more mature and can be more successful with it. Emily
Chelli
I seriously looked at using Writing Tales for our MCT gap. I decided to go a different direction, so I'm hoping I won't regret it.
Alte Veste Academy
Never mind. Misread what was being asked. :D
EmilyGF
I'll look at writing tales, but we'll still be using WWE, so maybe it would be overkill. We really didn't like the repetition of FLL. It also seemed over-scripted. I'm nervous to try R&S because we didn't like year 2 and it seems to go pretty slowly, too. Anyone try Memoria Press's grammar? jessj
We've used FLL 1-3. I liked 1-2. We did skip any review that seemed unnecessary. I think there is more there than most kids will need. Once I felt free to deviate and make it my own, we really enjoyed levels 1-2. Level 3, was a bit torturous for us. I won't repeat it. I've decided to jump over to JAG. I don't have my hands on it yet so I'm not sure how young you could begin with it.
BugsMama
I'm also looking for a FLL/MCT alternative. Neither jived for us. :) Listening i

I'm about to start MCT Island with a 4th grader. If I didn't choose MCT my other choice would have been Shurley. If your kids are younger...like 1st or 2nd, then I would say start out with The Sentence Family.
FairProspects
The Sentence Family is a perfect intro to MCT. It won't take a whole year though, just a few weeks.

I made it last a year by combining it with FLL 2. I used The Sentence Family to introduce the idea and then used FLL 2 as reinforcement. We are doing MCT this year for 3rd. I wish I'd waited on MCT until 4th, but she's able to do the work and likes it, but now I'm trying to find something else to use for 4th because I don't think she's ready for Town level next year. We'll wait on it until 5th.

Emily You might use Grammarland and the accompanying worksheets for grammar before starting MCT. It's kind of like The Sentence Family, but on a higher level.
