freesia
Tia!My son enjoyed Electricity in Sixth Grade. We did Radishes that year, too, but it was too high maintenance for our family. We also don't get into Botany. So,others may enjoy it.
Lori D.
Rocks and Minerals (along with Reader's Digest How Earth Works). Or, if you have more of a chemistry fan: Analysis. Either way be SURE to get the matching supply kit. ;) Happy experimenting! Warmly, Lori D.

g1234
Radishes was hands-down our favorite. Corn and beans was good. Though I agree with a pp that both of these are a bit high-maintenance: since they're growing, you have to keep on the schedule pretty closely, plus your plants WILL grow faster or slower than the curricula think they will. A grow light would have helped the beans and corn be less stringy. But both of these were still our favorites. Electricity--yes. Very cool. Magnetism was also fun, though with younger kids you have to skip some of the stuff--easily done. These four were our best TOPS experiences. Some of the others were definite flops, possibly because we didn't approach them right or at the right ages. We like the Activity Sheet curricula better than the Task Card curricula. Lori D.
I'm amending my recommendation... (lol) I'd say Analysis *can* be done by a 6th grader, but is probably better suited for 7th-10th grades. However -- I did forget about Focus Pocus, which is a lot of fun, and perfect for 6th grade. Rocks & Minerals is great for grades 6-9. Halcyon, if you're signed on to try out Oak Meadow this year, why on earth are you looking for other things for science?? Halcyon
{{Whispering in your ear.....try OM first...try OM first...}} :) HAHA! I think I need to take a deep breath. OM will be enough. I do not need three sciences. OM will be enough. I do not need three sciences. OM will be enough. Alte Veste Academy
Halcyon, I would just like to take this opportunity to thank you for being so selfless and transparent so that the rest of us can (re!)learn these lessons right along with you. (...says the psycho homeschooler who cleared her shelves of roughly a bajillion excessive LA supplements over the past few days only to receive two more that she forgot she purchased in the mail yesterday. :leaving: )
Lori D.
Meanwhile, on a completely different note... From your original post, I kept wondering who "Tia" was and why you were calling on her esp. for input on TOPS... :confused1: I was really looking forward to hearing this amazing science lady's wisdom... Just now, s-l-o-w-l-y, the lightbulb goes on and I realize: Thanks In Advance... sigh... :leaving:

He NEEDS to know I'm not the only one doing these things. It's gotten to the point where we get an Amazon box and DH looks at it and asks me what I ordered this time and I am speechless because I can't even remember! OK, gotta get off the boards for a while. I'm posting too much, reading too much and also reconsidering my alternative 6th grade plans now. Not a good sign. Adios for now!
