Blueridge
I had posted a curriculum set (very heavy) on CL at a very low price. Someone has contacted me multiple times with questions (many already answered in my ad). Her final request is will I either ship it to her at her expense or drive an hour to meet her half way. I'm sure she is a nice person and wants the books, but it isn't what I had in mind as far as ease of sale. WWYD?
Catwoman
If you didn't say in your ad that you would ship the books or meet the buyer halfway, there is no reason why you can't say she has to come to your house and pick the stuff up.
vonfirmath
How likely are you to get another bite? How badly do you want to sell?
indigomama
Tell her you can't do either right now, but if it doesn't sell in a week or two, you'd consider her offer to ship at her expense.
Guest submarines
Don't drive that far! She sounds flaky (asking questions you already answered?) and might not even show up. Suggest a location convenient to you, and be firm.
Blueridge
Thanks. I've had good success selling furniture lately but this is my first time selling books. I will be nice but firm.
Tap
I would ship if she was willing to send CASH ahead of time. No check. No MO. NO other payment. Just cash and including enough to cover shipping. Did I say cash?!? Otherwise, no. You live where you live. If she wants it, she can travel to get it. Otherwise move on to the next seller. I had a friend sell a brand new coat on CL. She shipped it to the person after receiving Paypal payment. The person said the coat was ripped and filed a Paypal Claim. Paypal refunded the money to the buyer and told them to return the coat to seller. Coat never arrived. It was a scam. No coat, no money. I've heard my whole life to never, ever send cash thru the mail. If someone I didn't know asked me to do it, I'd consider that they were trying to scam ME. When I used to buy and sell on line quite a bit, I had several people send cash. LOL I was always surprised when I opened the envelop and had cash fall out. I stopped selling online when the scams started increasing. I now sell all my old curriculum at a local store. I don't get as much money for it, but I have zero risk also. Word Nerd
I'd say sorry but that won't work. If you wanted to ship the the books to someone, I'm assuming you wouldn't have posted on Craigslist to begin with.
Seasider
You can tell her that you posted the books on CL with the intention of making a local sale. If you wanted to deal with shipping or delivery you would have posted them on eBay or some forum.
Blueridge
It went well. I wrote her back and explained why I had posted on CL instead of all my other options, and that I was going to need to sell it to a local person. She wrote me back with a thank you. So, problem solved! Thanks again for sharing the wisdom. :)

Asking multiple questions already answered would put me off from giving my address. Tell her that you will sell it to her at X dollars on X day at X time, or you will be moving on, if she declines. Your sale, your rules. I'd drive a long way for something I really wanted.

ocelotmom
People asking questions I answered in the ad is a red flag for me. I was trying to sell some college textbooks once on CL. It was everything needed for a particular nursing program, so I was hoping to sell most or all of it together. But everyone wanted me to drive half an hour to sell them an individual book. No. Maybe if it were something more expensive, but not if I'm spending as much in gas as I'd get for the book. Sold them all on amazon buyback for a reasonable amount instead - well worth the effort of boxing them up and taking them to the post office compared to the effort craigslist would have taken.
