separate weekly planner for teacher and student?

Recommended Posts

Need some logistics help. DS will be in 8th and will be taking

two classes (science and Lang Arts) at the local middle school (M-F)

Then history online (one day a week lecture)

online foreign language (1/2 hr mostly review 4 days a week)

college 102 foreign language (Tues afternoons)

at home math (daily), logic, competition/test prep (which may be interspersed)

We've always given him a general weekly planner of which subjects will be done that day but didn't include pages etc. So he could decide which order for the most part.

But now he's going to have to do more planning for weekly tests/assignments so should I give him a weekly planner for his home classes with specific chapters due

Or just a blank subject planner so he can write in what he "needs" to do for homework not necessarily what he did that day. (like how many pages to read for science or LA)

he has done very well with a monthly planner that had his sports and club meetings and even preplan exams and projects due, but there just isnt' enough space in a monthly planner to put in his daily hw for his middle school and online classes.

Sugesstions on how to have a student plan vs how much to give them in terms of teacher plans to keep a balance of what they need to know vs not overwhelming with a bunch of papers etc.

I gave my ds a planner last year. I wrote his assignments for the week in his planner and he checked off each one as he went. I will give him one this year and probably do the same thing. My son needs a bit of help in the organization are so I will not require him to write out his own "homework" until 9th grade.

I use weekly planners for my kids.  For DD12, I write her assignments for the week in the planner (chapter, assignments, etc) and she checks them off when she is done.  This year (7th grade), she will have an outside class at the local junior high, so she will be responsible for adding those assignments into the planner herself as well as practice instructions from her music teachers.

I usually pick up an academic planner at Walmart that has one week spread across two pages and lasts for the whole school year.  The one I have had the last two years was by Mead and had extra space at the end of each week for notes and special event stuff.

Each of my older children have their own planner. I made up a quarterly syllabus for science which gets posted in the kitchen. The children use it to plan their week. TOG has weekly assignment pages which I post weekly. The children and I touch base briefly to ensure we're on the same page for LA, math, and Latin. My planner includes only the information I need to follow through with the children or to prep for the upcoming week.

So do your weekly assignments fit in addition with her homework stuff on the daily space

I use http://homeschoolminder.com/  It has a teacher log in and a student log in.  It has space for everything and can print out reports.  My dd11 is new to this homeschooling thing, and I just print out her daily activities for her, right now.  I am hoping in time to print out a weekly one then eventually move that responsibility over to her.  I'll put in the lesson plans, but then she can make her own entries and print out what she may need.  She can access it from her iPhone as well.
