fraidycat
So I'm about 99% sure I am getting OM6 for DD. However, I am really wavering on whether or not to go with OM2 with DS, or not. Is it adaptable for the child who does NOT really appreciate drawing/coloring unless it is HIS idea? He also has a tendency to accuse me of "treating him like a baby", if he deems something beneath his own perceived maturity. OM might be too gentle... But, *I* really need the structure (I'm an eclectic/classical planning failure) and like the integration of more hands-on, whole-child approach, this is not my strong suit either, if it's not planned and included already. He may, or may not, enjoy the other hands on stuff a little more than just coloring. He might even like school a little better with this gentler approach, as long as he doesn't find it babyish. Ugh! This is tough. For those who have used OM in younger grades, what do you think? Should I take the plunge with OM, or pass and try to find something else for him? Aurelia
It is adaptable, but you might spend more time tweaking than what you would have saved by doing OM as written. That's what happened to us. It was a little TOO gentle for us, so I ended up supplementing pretty much everything but the history. I am inclined to encourage to find something else. Maybe Calvert or Memoria Press. fraidycat
Ok, thanks. The fact that I was so undecided was probably my answer in the first place. I really need to listen to my own intuition. I think that if I get the 6th grader off my plate (using OM), I can work with what I've got for the 2nd grader. Maybe only having to plan for one will be more doable. Plus, I already have so much stuff here that we haven't used yet, I can probably do 2nd grade for absolutely FREE. My budget likes that idea. I feel a little better knowing that if, for some reason it still doesn't work out for him, I've got time to regroup. I don't feel that way with DD. She's getting to the more critical age where school MUST get done.
