mamamindy
So, in an effort to become more streamlined and balance our academic studies with life :) , please recommend curriculum or methods that double duty, especially for the lower elementary grades and things that can be combined. Here's what I'm thinking: Writing in whatever we're studying - Bible, Literature, History, Science (using WTM/WWE method - but please do mention others). Spelling/Phonics/Handwriting using Spalding method FLL teaches more than just grammar in my opinion. We also have narration, copywork, learning the months, our address, etc. I like that. And I combine my children since it's mostly for exposure at this point anyway. I know there are so many more. :)
Aurelia
Unit studies usually cover at least science and history/geography/social studies. Most of them also cover art, most English skills and Bible. lea_lpz
MFW combines Bible, History, Literature, Art, Music, etc. for grades 2-8 with 7/8 doing some more advanced science and activities. The use a classical education method and do a 5 year history cycle that includes a year of geography. You can choose your own math, Lang., foreign language, and science for 7-8 (2-6 science is included in each cycle year), but they have recommendations. lea_lpz
I just saw your ages. So if you did MFW, your youngest children would join the oldest's curriculum as their core curriculum, and spend time with you doing math & Lang. one on one. They have a k program, too, but you could just do the R's with your k'er using whatever works for you and them let the k'er do what interests them and vary it for what would be appropriate for them. Adventures is their suggestion for 2nd or 3rd grade oldest children. http://www.mfwbooks.com/products/M50/40/5/0/

This is a resource, not a curriculum per se, but "Cara's Calendar Companion" is $5 on Teachers Pay Teachers. It is sort of "morning meeting" thing that covers calendar, weather, clock, money, even/odd and a lot of other math stuff that might not be part of your regular math curriculum. She calls it K-2 but she uses it in her first grade class. Classical House of Learning's Literature program is complementary to SOTW and includes narration, copywork, and dictation. You can use it for WWE-style LA that goes along with your history. The copywork isn't twice a week, though (some times it's once a week or not at all, other times it's every day). It's a good starting point. I have dreams of combining poetry memorization, music study, artist study, and physical activity into a daily schedule but I don't think I want to invest the time. Memoria Press's Kindergarten Enrichment is a pretty nice all-on-one for K actually. A bit of literature, science, social studies, art, and music all together.
