DS with fever and sore throat...doc visit and strep test? Or wait it out? UPDATED

UPDATE: negative for strep.

 

 

DS had a sore throat yesterday. It hurt and he didn't want to talk. He sounded a bit congested but went about his day. We thought it was allergy symptoms.

 

Today, he woke up hot and clammy with 101 degree fever, throat still sore and more congested-sounding. I sent him back to bed with Tylenol on board and he got up now with no fever. I'm thinking the tylenol is still working...4 hours later.

 

complicating this is that he is taking Health class and missing a day is like missing a week. SO he basically missed a week.

 

How fast does strep show up in a test? Should I take him in?

Strep usually presents without cold symptoms. Since he is congested, it most likely is a cold and not strep.

I thought so, too. I probably would have waited it out if he wasn't in summer school.

 

But....drumroll...you were right...Negative strep.
