Mountainmama
Is anyone else waiting for the publication of a new curriculum for the Fall - or a reprint of a text sold out? If so, what books are you waiting on? Do you have a backup plan if the book(s) is not available on time to start? I am waiting on Kreeft's Socrates Children and I guess the only thing I can do is have dc continue to listen to historyofphilosophy and then try to read the texts to get caught up to where he is in the lectures. Oh! What is this? I've not heard of Socrates Children! Some friends and I are reading through Kreeft's book, Socratic Logic, and we *love* it. It is the best textbook for traditional logic that I've ever come across, and I've come across many (since I used to have a little homeschool bookshop when we lived in Colorado). I've also listened to Kreeft's lectures on philosophy which were published by B&N a while back. Is that what you are referring to above? Crimson Wife
Yes, I'm waiting on Singapore Discovering Math 8A Common Core edition. It was originally supposed to be out end of April, and the release date keeps getting pushed back (right now CBD is saying August 15th but that's the 4th or 5th date they've listed). DD is doing a quick run-through of selected units from MEP years 7-9 that she missed on the diagnostic tests for that program. "Socrates' Children" looks interesting, and like it would be great self-education for me.
8filltheheart
Wow, I hadn't heard of these. We have several of the Socrates Meets....... books and his Christianity for Modern Pagans and logic. I really love his materials and his lectures. Which one did you pre-order? It looks like it is originally being produced as a series, ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary. I would like to be able to see one and compare it to Socrates Meets. Fwiw, you might want to look at the TC's Birth of the Modern Mind series bc they work well with Kreeft's books. Mountainmama
Thanks for the TC tip! We will be using Socrates meets series for dramatic (oral) reading. I'm planning on using Kreeft's Logic after completing a year of James Madison and the workbook for arguments. I preordered the ancients and medieval (plan to do a second year and use the other 2 books). We're also using Socrates 101 and Philosophy adventure, so I suppose if the release is delayed we can make do. I've always wondered why textbook publishers don't do a better job of releasing their new books BEFORE the first day of school in Fall.
