kfeusse
if my 9 year old can take 2 tsp of liquid motrin (he is near 50 pounds) is there any reason why he can't take 1 adult tablet of Motrin (it's the exact same amount of medicine) even though it says on the bottle that children under the age of 12 need an doctor recommendation?? (or if the same senerio happens with different meds as long as the amount of medicine is the same, it's ok, right???) I am packing for a 3 week trip...and I am trying to streamline where possible.... thanks.
SLT
Yep. As long as the milligrams delivered (200 mg, yes?) are the same, there is really no reason why your kiddo can't take it. It is just the pill maker covering their tails.

In the Rain
I checked with a pharmacist a couple of years ago. He said it was fine. In our case, I needed to split a pill in half. He said as long as it wasn't time-release or coated, it would be fine. He said the warning is probably because some younger kids can't swallow tablets. Lol Dd recently learned to swallow pills so I've been giving her a 200mg tablet. She just got her braces off and is adjusting to her retainers.
