Moving to St. Petersburg...anyone there that can answer questions?

Recommended Posts

We are moving there on the 27th. Currently, our oldest (entering 10th) has been attending a college prep style co-op here (Ohio) that is excellent. Is there anything like that in the area? What are our options with her?

6th grade son I'm thinking would do best continuing homeschooling as usual with a co-op group for friends to connect.

3rd grade girl wants to give public a try. Do I just need to have CAT testing results plus her bc and immunization record to enroll? I would love to know what options are available to her though, as her reading is not up to a classroom "standard" (that will be what annoys me about public I think)

Thank you!!

We are in that area also. We participate in Chosen Co-Op (www.chosenco-op.org/‎). I can't say enough about this group. We've been doing it for a few years now. We will continue. PM me with any specific questions. Basically, if you are Christian, in St Pete, and homeschool- go here. All grades.

You mentioned a college prep program. I don't know that Chosen would be what you want, but the next best thing is Veritas Academy in Largo (http://www.veritas-ircs.org/). I've heard wonderful things, just not for us right now. We actually go to church with a math teacher there.

I have no idea about public school here. I know there are some really awful schools here. Please be careful. Try to get into a fundamental or magnet school. You may be running out of time for that though.

Let me know any other questions.

We are over the bay, SE of Tampa. This area is great for homeschooling. There are so many groups and field trip opportunities. If your children are interested in sports check out Tampa Bay Heat. They recently were accepted to compete with private and public high schools and students will be eligible for college scholarships and such.
