What could this lump be?

So I was sitting at my desk, elbows on it, and reached up to my neck area for some reason. My hands felt my collar bone, on each side, and kinda felt out to the shoulder. Then I felt this weird bump on the left collar bone. It's a good 1-2 inches from the neck itself, so I don't think it's anything "lymph" related. It's a large bump, interior, ie under the skin. I had DH feel it and he could definately feel it. Then he looked and it's visible once you notice it. (regardless of which position my shoulders and upper body are in)

I can't imagine what it could be. It's kinda right on the collar bone, and I'm thinking that's just muscle/tissue/bone area...not glands, organs etc. I didn't think it hurt...doesn't hurt to touch, but now that I'm thinking about it...I kinda sort can feel a dull ache (that could be my mind playing tricks now too). No injuries that I can think of in the last week or so.

No visible signs of bites, rash or anything else on the skin itself. What on earth could it be? I mean it's quite large, like you can almost "hold" it between three fingers. Thoughts?

It could be a lipoma (non-cancerous tumor) which is common and nothing to worry about. If you push on it you shouldn't feel anything hard inside. It is essentially a deposit of fatty tissue. You can have it checked with an ultrasound to be sure. I have one in almost the exact spot.

It could be a fatty cyst, if nothing else. I would go have it checked out, just in case.

I have one of these. They said they could remove it, if I ever wanted to do that. I had mine ultrasounded (I think it was an u/s) and I would recommend that just so you have peace of mind.

Agreeing with others that it sounds like a fatty cyst, but to get it checked out by your doctor. I have had one on my neck for more than a decade. It is noticeable, if I turn in a certain direction, and I dislike it. I was informed by the doctor that because of it's location, removal could be tricky, due to its proximity to my vocal cords. So, I live with it.

Not saying I know anything about this at all, just our experience.

One of my kids had a lymph node that became swollen in the exact spot you describe, right smack on the collar bone. It was tender to the touch. Doc said most likely an infection of some kind, perhaps due to the chest and neck acne (very few spots, not so an average person would ID them as acne) in relative proximity to that area, not even what we could call "near" to it. A round of antibiotics took care of it, but he was watchful lest it didn't, and then we would be testing for something serious. He had us come in afterward to positively confirm that it had healed.

I vote have it checked for your peace of mind and treated if appropriate.

Yes, I went in today and the Nurse-Practioner thinks it's a "lipoma", which is essentially a fatty cyst.   I asked if there's a root cause to these and she said not really.  Anyone can get them, and for no random reason.   Often they are just left alone, as there's no real harm.   She said that even her son has one, on the back of his head, and because it's not harmful, or even noticeable under his hair, they've left it.    But because of where mine is located, on the collar bone, it's potentially causing pain in my arm...dull aches, sometimes tingling, possibly squishing nerves or something.  So I go in for an ultrasound on it tomorrow, and then  based on that, potentially to a surgeon for removal.   (from my research online, since I heard the diagnoses, it seems the surgery is often out-patient, relatively simple).    So next step is ultrasound tomorrow.

And thanks to the Hive, helpful as ever!  Valid, accurate info.....that's why ya'll are always my first stop, lol!
