saraha
We are looking at some options for covering our back deck. Does anyone have one of these? Do you like it?
AngieW in Texas
My fil has one and loves it. It has some kind of sensor system that is supposed to automatically retract it if the winds get too high. He doesn't really trust the sensor system, so he keeps it retracted unless he is actively using it.

datgh
We have had a Sunsetter awning for over 10 years and love it. Our deck was unusable because it is on the south side of the house. With the awning we feel like we have another room in the summer. I love eating breakfast under it in the morning. Our awning is pretty big. I think it is at least 20 feet long which makes it a big sail in a severe thunderstorm so we need to pay attention to the weather. I pull ours in if I know there is a bad storm coming or if I am going to be gone and not home if it is necessary. If it is going to rain I tend to tip one corner of it so water runs off. I think the newer ones have cross pieces built into them so big puddles of water don't form. Ours bent a bit in one storm when we didn't tip it enough. Despite the wind, the rain and southern exposure ours has held up really well. I wouldn't be without it. It also keeps our house so much cooler in the summer because it keeps the sun from beating in the big windows.

Halftime Hope
I looked at several houses that had them. if you get one, be sure it is mounted as high as possible on the house edge of the awning. one or two of the ones I looked at felt a bit like a cave because the lower edge (opposite the house) was too low for me. : )
Alte Veste Academy
Our landlord had one installed on the western side of our rental house this spring and OH MY WORD! LOVE is not a good enough word to describe my feelings about this thing. Our master bedroom was unbearably hot in the afternoon, despite keeping the shades drawn AND putting black-out curtains over the windows of that wall. I swear, this shade has cut our electric bill by at least $50/month during the summer and our room stays the same temp as the rest of the house. Before you would walk down the hallway, fine and dandy, then hit a wall of hot air as soon as you stepped into the bedroom. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the brand is (and just looked, but there are no markings).
