Book Suggestions for a strong 4th grader

Some books by 9 yr old (just finished 3rd grade) likes:

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Star Wars Origami series http://origamiyoda.wordpress.com/

The Wizard of Oz

Lemonade Wars series

Lunch Lady series

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

We'e started reading the Laura Ingalls Wilder books together.  He is loving Little House in the Big Woods and can't wait until we get to the next book, Farmer Boy, so he can learn about Almonzo's early life.

I'm considering introducing him to Ender's Game, but I'm not sure he's quite ready for it.  Any thoughts?

excuse the massive typos and such I'm trying to nurse a fussy baby and everytime I try to edit yet another mistake I find she is fidgeting and whining.

I think the Great Books Academy lists are nicely challenging. I'm using the 4th grade list for ds this year, who is technically 3rd although older for his grade, due to his b-day being at the local cut-off day, so he turns 9 at the end of the month. I hadn't looked at the Mensa list before. It does seem that they have a lot of good books suggested. I have a few books from that list on my list as well.

As you haven't mentioned what he has liked and what he has already read I'll just throw out what I used to make ds a list this year. I looked at GBA, MA and AO, and probably others that I've forgotten by now. From these lists I compiled a list based on what he has yet to read, what I want him to read and what I think he will find interesting.

So far off the list he has read The Princess and the Goblin this summer but not Princess and Curdie yet. We read it year before last as a read aloud and I would definitely recommend it if your son hasn't read it yet. They have Water Babies on the 3rd grade list which I've added as well as he hasn't read that, although we did do part of it as a read-aloud. I have in my sig that I have books for lit from AO and GBA but looking now I mostly picked from GBA and MA as I don't care for a lot of the selections from AO. It is interesting to look at the different list and at different grade levels. I do find it odd that on GBA Water Babies is listed on the 3rd grade list, when to me it is similar in difficulty to The Princess and Goblin and a considerably more challenging read than the Little House Series which mostly occupies the 3rd grade list. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the Little House series, ds read Farmer Boy last year and enjoyed it but wasn't interested in reading the rest of the set.

I would like ds to read the Narnia series as well but then I also would like to do a study around it next year so I think I'll try to hold him off from it. We did do the first as a read-aloud year before last however and he has listened to them all on audio. Ds has became a pretty voracious reader so I'm not sure how Lit is going to go as he could easily knock out my whole list in the first half of the year, we will see I guess, there are always more books to add if needed.
