Please tell me it will be okay (real estate closing)

I have been driving cross country for days and arrived at my new house to discover that the real estate closing at my new house did not happen as planned today.

The mortgage company cancelled and left some generic message with the buyers attorney. So at the moment my attorney and everyone else involved have no idea why the closing is being delayed.

I'm trying not to freak out but I'm not succeeding. :crying:

Please tell me your happy endings to real estate transactions that were delayed.

How stressful! I am so sorry. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because we sold our house and it closes on Thursday. We aren't buying a house because our house sold so fast we didn't even have time to find one we liked so we're just renting until we do. At least that's one less stress.

There are about a billion different details that have to be put in place for a closing to actually take place. It is very common for a hiccup to cause one to be postponed.

I hope you can get a clear story on what happened and what's being done to make things right. We closed on a property not too long ago and the closing agent commented on how flaky mortgage companies are these days, especially if there's anything other than a straight conventional loan with a sizable down payment.

Please don't worry, but do make whatever calls necessary to make sure everyone knows that YOU are ready to close!

We sold a house in 2011, while living 3000 miles away. We had a couple of delays and even up to the last minute there were issues that needed to be resolved. I think on the day it did close, the papers were filed/recorded sometime between 4:30 and 5 pm. On a Friday. I remember needing a lot of reassurance from the realtor and the title company rep that it was well and truly DONE. It was very stressful! But pretty common, I'm told.

Hope you have good news soon.

By the time we had everything signed, sealed, and delivered on my mom's house that I sold for her, I thought I would pull my hair out. The real estate lawyer had to talk me off the ledge several times because the buyer was in clear, univequivocal breach of contract not once, but twice. The lawyer kept saying, "What's your end goal?", while my friend the real estate agent here in TX kept having a professional cow. And when it was al nearly concluded, it turns out we narrowly missed having to suspend the sale, as FL has a law about not selling or buying real estate within a 72 hour window before or after a hurricane makes landfall. We concluded the sale with 24 hours to spare. Whew!

Very best of luck to you, and I wish you chew-proof fingernails. : )
