tammyw
We used Evan mor this past year and wondering about what are our other options. We also look at maps and the globe a decent amount and dd10 is fairly proficient in this area, but trying to see what else we might like? Any great books or resources? Was also thinking about buying this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0769685595/ref=s9_simh_awgw_d0_g14_i1/186-1593594-8198162?aid=aw_gw&apid=1353730462&arc=1201&arid=0209BQN9TZF0EVPFAKBE&asn=center-6&pf_rd_i=aw_gw&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=1353730462&pf_rd_r=0209BQN9TZF0EVPFAKBE&pf_rd_s=center-6&pf_rd_t=1201

tammyw
I'm looking at Beautiful Feet's Geography Through Literature for my rising fifth and third graders. I haven't bought it yet, but BF's guides are very easy to implement. Once the recommended resources are gathered it's open and go. Lol! I actually have that and kind of forgot about it. Maybe it's time to pull it out this year :)
Cmm
The Ten Days in... games are good. (Ten Days in Europe; Ten Days in Asia; etc) Also the Kingfisher Geography Encyclopedia is worth owning.

I'd love a glimpse inside the book!
dmmm
I bought that book and found it limited. I was looking for something more global. It is okay if you want to study reading basic maps and the US, I guess, but it may be a little babyish for your 10 yo.

My ds7 would possibly like it, but I don't think he's ready for that yet. Gosh, I wish they had different levels of these types of books! Heidi
Have you looked at sheppardsoftware.com? It is free and is good for learning countries, states, capitals, and geographical areas. I thought I would just assign my kids a continent to master on this website and purchase a couple of geography books on the area for them to browse. alisoncooks
Are there samples of this anywhere? I'd love a glimpse inside the book! I found this one at Office Depot this past weekend (in the teaching supplies section). I thumbed through it b/c I'd contemplated using it in a few years, but I wasn't impressed. IIRC, there was a starting section on map skills (parts of a map, how to read it, etc). Then a state-by-state study (which seemed to have a lot of busy work like crossword puzzles & such). BlessedMom
You might take a look at Down to Earth Geography. http://www.rainbowresource.com/prodlist.php?subject=14&category=8844
