tammyw
We started The Hobbit last year but never finished it. We are going to start it over soon, but then I'd like to read LOTR, and quite possibly my dd10 might be ready it (I've never read it, nor watched the movies, so I'm not sure, but she is a voracious reader). I've been looking around for a nice set, but wondering if there's a nice illustrated version? Any suggestions? TIA!

I've been looking around for a nice set, but wondering if there's a nice illustrated version? Any suggestions? TIA! No suggestions. But we have read The Hobbit here twice. (Once Dh read it, once audio) But then I found that an annotated version of it exsists, and ordered it from amazon since it was in stock. ... Well they then realized it was not in stock and the estimate of time to ship just increased till "When Hell freezes over". I now get updates from amazon every few weeks saying they are still trying to find it. :glare: This happens with about 1/4 of books I order. Dh says it is one of my super powers. If you are listening to the Hobbit I personally love the soundtrack for the cartoon version.
tammyw
I have the annotated and illustrated version of the hobbit. I wonder why it's hard to find now? Maybe check Barnes and noble?
PeterPan
Look for the Michael Hague version of the Hobbit and Alan Lee of LotR. I gave the isbns for the version dd likes in the other LotR thread recently. Main thing to watch is font size. Because LotR is so long, sometimes the font gets really small. How do you tell what the font size is? http://www.amazon.com/Fellowship-Ring-Lord-Rings-Part/dp/061826051X/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1372036116&sr=1-3&keywords=alan+lee+lord+of+the+rings or http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0618260587/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER And this looks interesting. http://www.amazon.com/The-Lord-Rings-Sketchbook-Alan/dp/0618640142/ref=pd_sim_b_4
Bang!Zoom!
My sister has the movie guide for LoTR. It was excellent. I suppose you could find it on Amazon easily enough.
PeterPan
Was it one of these? How do you tell what the font size is? http://www.amazon.co...rd of the rings My dd said these two are probably the same, just one is the set of three in the box and the other is individual books. http://www.amazon.co...d=ATVPDKIKX0DER And this looks interesting. http://www.amazon.co.../ref=pd_sim_b_4 This is only illustrations. Awesome if that's what you want. If you put stock in the opinion of a 14 yo, she said that for a 10 yo wanting illustrations, she would do the Alan Lee set, that it's AMAZING. She said that once she no longer wants the illustrations, the youth version she reads is nice. It has a very comfortable size font, which is why we bought it. isbn 0618574972 and then find the rest. We have the Alan Lee version all in one volume, but she says getting the 3 volumes has more illustrations, go figure. She apparently got it through the library and drooled over it a lot. Sounds like you can't go wrong. :) PS. You could get it through the library and then buy the set for her for Christmas if she turns out to like it...
