ScoutTN
I have the Humphrey Carpenter one and would like to read another. Anyone have favorites or suggestions?
Slartibartfast
Not a biography but a very good read. The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien http://www.amazon.com/dp/0618056998 Some are simply amazing. I love his snarky letter to the German publisher who asked him about his race.
SilverMoon
My ds and I really enjoyed Joseph Pearce's Tolkien: Man and Myth, a Literary Life.
Lori D.
Quite a few suggestions of all types of resources about/by Tolkien in this recent thread: Any serious Tolkien fans?
8filltheheart
I'll second Joseph Pearce's book. Another book that I enjoyed, though not a biography, is The Philosophy of Tolkien by Kreeft. (I am a huge Kreeft fan, so I am biased on this one. I will give you a heads up that the book is almost as much about CS Lewis as it is Tolkien, but since I am a Lewis fan as well, that is fine w/me. :) )
ScoutTN
Thanks for the suggestions! Anyone read either of the books about JRRT by Tom Shippey?
Lori D.
Anyone read either of the books about JRRT by Tom Shippey? No, but I'm thinking of asking for one of them for Christmas. I'll be watching to see how people respond to your question to know which one to ask for! :)
