lewelma
I think my house might take off. 130km gusts here, I'm guessing 100km sustained. My single pane windows are none too good at holding out the rain. I have definitely heard some BAD sounds, like the sounds of roofs being removed. The science fair is tomorrow and I think it will be WET! The Wairarapa judge has parked her car on our side and plans to take the train under the Rimatukas. Here's hoping we don't get snow! Grover
wow, nothing like that here. They've decided we won't even get snow now. The enormous pile of firewood I moved inside will last me all week, I suspect!
lewelma
Just got a call that the upstairs neighbor's plate glass window just shattered. So we are moving the kids out of their room and onto the sofa bed in the lounge. No large southerly facing windows in there. Apparently there is glass all over the path outside and the rain is pouring in. So I am expecting it to start coming in through the ceiling soon. sigh. Also, hear a tree come down about 20 minutes ago. CRACK! pause CRASH!
Elfknitter.#
Yikes! Keeping good thoughts that it blows over (pun intended) soon!
Greenmama2
Eep. Hope it is over soon.

creekland
I hope it all turned out ok - esp with lives. May any damage get fixed quickly. :grouphug:
Renee in NC
I hope it turned out well, and the science fair goes on today as planned.
lewelma
Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. And, no, I just cancelled the science fair (well, delayed it). Sigh. The police have asked everyone to stay off the road and inside because of flying debris, and they have closed a lot of the roads including parts of the state highway system because of slips. lewelma
Just found out the one of the BIG car ferries got ripped off its moorings. So there is currently a tug boat holding it steady in the middle of the harbour! Biggest gust was recorded at 200kph (125mph)!
mumto2
Glad you are OK. It sounds like quite a storm. I can't imagine one of those ferries loose!
lewelma
The sun is out! But still wiiiiiiindy!
KungFuPanda
I'm sorry about the storm. Ever since a big "Crack 'pause' Crash" came through my roof I'm a bit cowardly about storms. I hope you come through unscathed.
lewelma
My kids did not want to sleep in their room when they found out that the upstairs large plate glass window had imploded with large shards of glass everywhere. Same room, just up a level. They slept in the lounge! We have 3 trees down on our property, and will need to scaffold the building to replace the window, there was that much damage to the frame. It sounds like quite the storm! Glad you're all ok and all that needs fixing is "stuff." That's annoying/frustrating, but it's better than having anyone hurt. :grouphug: I hope the science fair goes well when you can have it. Deb in NZ
The pictures on the news of your area were scary. Glad you weathered the storm OK. We had winds, but nothing like down your way.
kiwik
I have friends in KoroKoro it looked like a big one. I remember a few big ones in Island Bay - they can be scary and those big plate glass windows can explode or implode under pressure. It pretty much missed us this time - just heavy rain but no floods. Have you been to the Warhol exhibition at Te Papa?
